Introduction
The Faculty of Economics and Development has received from CENCO the mission of training executives capable of promoting development actions in the country in a Christian spirit and of scientifically studying social problems and making operational the solutions envisaged on the basis of of the social teaching of the Church and of the fundamental options of the National Episcopal Conference of Congo in the matter.
The basic studies are spread over five years, ie 3 years of graduat and 2 years of licence. The license program can be supplemented by that of the Aggregation of higher secondary education (organized by the Department of Aggregation of higher secondary education), which authorizes the license holder to teach in secondary schools.
The Faculty of Economics and Development has a Professionalization Office whose main tasks are as follows:
- make contact with companies for student guided tours;
- schedule student internships in companies;
- maintain permanent liaison and public relations with companies;
- organize popularization issues: publication of prospectuses presenting the Faculty, information bulletins on professional activities, editing of radio and television programs, etc.;
- coordinate computerized databases relating to research in development and supervise students in their learning of computer tools;
- organize seminars and conferences planned by the Faculty;
- serve as consulting expertise or consulting engineer. The centralization of information on companies and dioceses will be a prerequisite for feasibility studies;
- serve as a relay for students among themselves on the one hand, and between teachers, students and people from outside on the other hand, through the extension service, transmission of theories, initiation to other methods of agricultural extension in force in organizations such as the World Bank, etc. ;
- create a placement service for graduates and an association of former graduates of the Faculty with a view to exchanging creative business ideas and knowing what these graduates are doing in active life;
- promote action research.
The Faculty of Economics and Development also has an Observatory of Political Economy and Human Development which pursues the following objectives:
- establishment of a laboratory and a database on human development and the fight against poverty;
- organization of workshops based on pre-selected working documents, some of which will be selected for publication;
- organization of refresher courses in Belgium for Professors well advanced in the preparation of articles relating to the annual themes of the Observatory;
- supervision at the local level of doctoral students benefiting from VLIR funding, within the framework of the Own Initiative project between the IPGD/UA and the FED/FED, of which Prof. Marysse is Promoter, and working in the area of poverty.
