As part of your course, you’ll:
- Develop your project management skills by devising, developing and successfully implementing an array of hospitality events guided by industry
- Put theory into practice and see hospitality in action, with visits to local industry
- Work on live projects, such as devising social media communication plans for restaurateurs, designing and developing an exceptional guest welcome or creating a strategy for hoteliers and bars based on data and market insights on the latest trends in the sector
There is an opportunity to negotiate your assessments, tailor the course to your interests and goals, and undertake ongoing training throughout your course in specific industry interests and qualifications.
If you choose to study our sandwich option – a year of paid employment in the industry – you’ll spend your third year working in the hospitality industry, gaining the practical skills you need to be a successful leader in the sector. Our placement students have worked at companies both at home and abroad including the Radisson Blu here in Leeds and La Gorce Country Club in Miami.

Using Leeds as a case study, you’ll experience the full range of hospitality offerings including restaurants, hotels, coffee shops, pubs and more. We can help you find vacancies or opportunities or pursue any of your special interests for your work placement during your third year.

Teaching & Learning
Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university and you will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Your course is delivered through several modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to specialist learning and study-skill resources. You’ll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.
Year 1

Learn to create and deliver successful hospitality marketing initiatives as well as irresistible, memorable, and communicable hospitality products and services in ethical and responsible ways so that stakeholders achieve their short-term goals and long-term purposes.
Revenue Management
This module focuses on profitability and introduces key financial documents used by hospitality businesses. You'll gain an understanding of how departments or units can operate efficiently and effectively while maintaining product quality.
Organisation Behaviour & Design
Develop an understanding of how to design the structure and culture of departments in various hospitality organizations to coordinate employees' behaviours for efficient and effective daily operations. This includes insights into labour markets and the composition of the hospitality industry workforce.
Professional & Academic Skills for Hospitality
Acquire and develop academic and professional skills in various learning environments, including paid and unpaid work settings, to enhance your success in the hospitality industry.
