Introduction
The study program of Photography aims to promote individual humanistic orientation, aesthetic perception, critical and creative thinking, social activity, freedom of communication and responsibility, develop the professional skills of a photography specialist based on traditional, alternative, and digital photography and innovations of professional activity in the various fields of application of the art of photography, and enhance the abilities necessary for organizing photographer’s activities considering the changes in the environment and perceiving the importance of lifelong learning.
This study program is promising and innovative. In addition to digital photography, students can study and master the alternative processes of analog photography, such as Cyanotype, Lith Print, and Gum Bichromate. They gain intercultural experience by attending lectures given by lecturers from abroad. The study program of Photography graduates will be able to work individually as freelance photographers; set up a company and create jobs in their professional field of activity; work in a team in photo service companies, media, fashion or advertising agencies, galleries, cinematographic or videography studios, museums; set up a photography business; develop and expand creative and project activities.
Specialization
The wide applicability of photography as a way of conveying visual information and blurring the boundaries between the functions of photography in the world of work implies the need for multidimensional professional training for the photographer. It requires a broader general education (at the levels of cognitive, personal, and social abilities) and a narrower but more in-depth training aimed to develop and deepen the specific professional skills required in a certain field of photography.
The scope of a photographer’s activities – providing photographic services to clients, journalistic photography, advertising photography, video filming – does not cover the whole spectrum of needs since, in today’s world of activity, employers need specialists who can act professionally in the fields of fashion, architecture, the photography, and reproduction of artworks. Students of this study program can adapt to a whole spectrum of needs.
Study subjects: Photography History, History of Cinema and Video Art, History of Lithuanian Art and Architecture, Drawing, Painting, Foreign Language, Reproduction of Two-Dimensional Artworks and Photography of Three-Dimensional Artworks, Communication Psychology, Human Safety, Alternative Processes in Photography, Basics of Photography, Basics of Using Photographic Equipment, Commercial Photography, Theory and Practice of Photojournalism, Preparation of Achievement Portfolio, Visual Communication, Management of Artistic Projects, Creative Writing, Art Research.

Assessment
Assessment procedures are based on clearly formulated criteria that allow a reliable assessment of the level of knowledge, abilities, and practical skills that the student has achieved during a study period. The assessment of learning achievements may be collegial (students’ creative works, models, and projects are presented and discussed during a review using collegial assessment by an academic staff panel, with the participation of students) and diagnostic (examinations, interim assessments, testing, oral interrogation, written interrogation, etc.).
Your lecturers
Lecturers are practitioners and theoreticians in the field of photography. They monitor the development of their students and apply inspiring teaching methods.
The teaching methods used in the study process are passive; active; interactive; and research. Students’ ability to self-study is fostered through individual assignments, aesthetic awareness, application of technology, teamwork, communication with the client, etc. Specific methods used for studying photography include interim, semester, and final theses reviews, visiting and analyzing exhibitions, documentation (analog, digital) and presentation of creative works, participation in exhibitions, national and international competitions at different levels, workshops, real projects, etc.
Students participate in workshops led by: Artūras Morozovas (photographer (Lithuania)), Tadas Kazakevičius (photographer (Lithuania)), Algis Kriščiūnas (painter, photographer (Lithuania)), Jurga Graf (photographer, designer (Germany, Portugal)), Andre Principe (Portugal), Bernhard Poscher (Austria), Luis Antonio Rojas (Mexico), Dorota Mościbrodzka (Poland), while studying.
Learning Process
From the 1st semester onwards, the theoretical knowledge is directly applied to practical activities. In the 1st semester, students study alternative photographic processes, the history of photography, and creative writing, and in the 2nd semester, they apply this knowledge while creating projects on the photography of architecture. In the 2nd (semesters 3 and 4) and 3rd year (semester 5), students learn to apply theoretical knowledge in practice, working with both analog and digital equipment, making informed choices of the best-suited tools to implement their creative intentions, and revealing their ideas.
Personal art projects are created, research is carried out, and exhibitions of works are organized in Kauno Kolegija Higher Education Institution and other locations in the country. Students develop creative thinking and skills while implementing visual art projects, improve their knowledge by working with analog and modern technologies, and intensively use theoretical knowledge in practical activities. Different media and interdisciplinary elements are taught. In the 2nd (semester 4) and 3rd year (semesters 5 and 6), a block of courses in another field of study that promotes marketing and entrepreneurship skills is included. Professional internships are carried out from semesters 2 to 4.
