Goals:
The Social Education course aims to qualify future social educators as socio-educational intervention technicians who work with a variety of audiences in order to improve the quality of life, promoting the personal and social development of individuals, namely through monitoring socialization and integration in different socio-educational contexts. Although often intervening in contexts of exclusion or social risk, the social educator acts upstream and downstream, in very different institutional spaces, developing an educational action that is distinguished by its non-formal nature and that privileges the possibility of involving motivation and participation of the target subjects. Therefore, the aim is to train social educators capable of mobilizing multifaceted responses, integrating intervention partnership networks and boosting socio-educational, cultural, recreational, pedagogical and occupational activities. This polyvalent nature of their training allows them not only to lead the planning and execution of intervention projects, but also to be close to people in their everyday contexts of life.
Professional Opportunities:
Different types of institutions/organisations constitute potential workplaces in the field of socio-educational intervention - namely services dependent on ministerial bodies, networks of social solidarity institutions, autarchies, charities, non-governmental organisations: social reintegration institutions; child and youth shelter institutions; leisure occupation centers; homes and day centers for the elderly; institutions intervening in the field of drug addiction; health centers; support associations for children with mental disabilities; local development associations, projects in schools and parents' associations, etc. Areas such as: the prevention and social reintegration of risky behavior, social work with children and young people, intervention in a school context or in leisure activities stand out as well; the promotion of training and social reintegration of adults; the social integration of the elderly and the promotion of active aging; the social integration of people with disabilities or mental illness; environmental education; the fight against social exclusion.
