Introduction
This program focuses on the canonical books of the Bible, both within their historical and cultural worlds and in relation to their reception within the Christian and Jewish traditions. All students acquire a thorough competency in both the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible and the New Testament, including competency in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek.
Students may learn other ancient languages and literatures as their research requires. The comprehensive exams cover the whole Bible, with emphasis on either the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible or the New Testament, and include a specialized exam in an area of study pertinent to the student's dissertation.
Upon completion of the Bachelor of Biblical Studies program, a graduate will be able to:Retain extensive knowledge of the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament. Interpret Scripture in its original languages using modern research tools. Apply a biblical worldview to guide life, ministry, and professional practice. Communicate the truths of Scripture in a variety of contexts, in both written and verbal forms (including some exposure to cross-cultural contexts). Identify their gifts and discern how to use them to benefit their community. Pursue further studies in theology and ministry at the graduate level.
