Introduction

Civil engineering is the oldest existing engineering discipline. With the increasing global population, the growing complexity of industries, and changing urban centers, the civil engineer's task—applying science to the control and utilization of the environment for the total benefit of mankind—represents a challenge unsurpassed in all of engineering.

Illinois Tech's civil engineering program provides breadth in core sub-disciplines (including structures, transportation, and construction management) and depth in at least one area of specialization (at the discretion of the student and academic advisor).

In professional courses, classroom lectures are supplemented by laboratory practice, including the study of materials, concrete, hydraulics, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, and surveying.

Our civil engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Program Overview

The civil engineering program will enable you to make far-reaching decisions that draw not only from technical knowledge but also integrity and judgment. Experience a breadth in core sub-disciplines (including structures, transportation, and construction management) and an area of specialization.

The current educational objectives of the undergraduate program in civil engineering are embodied in the following statements:

  • Graduates are prepared to enter the civil engineering profession.
