Finance At Its Very Best
Humber’s Bachelor of Commerce – Finance program is a four-year business degree that offers comprehensive knowledge of both business and finance. In your first two years, you’ll be exposed to a variety of business fundamentals such as marketing, accounting, economics, and law. In the last two years of the program, you’ll focus on theories, methods, and techniques in various aspects of finance, including analysis, planning and risk management.
Our Program
Humber’s Bachelor of Commerce – Finance program is a four-year business degree that offers comprehensive knowledge of both business and finance. In your first two years, you’ll be exposed to a variety of business fundamentals such as marketing, accounting, economics, and law. In the last two years of the program, you’ll focus on theories, methods, and techniques in various aspects of finance, including analysis, planning and risk management.
Our project-based curriculum, designed by industry experts, helps you develop the skills to move from idea to execution, all while learning core business concepts and financial strategies. A senior-level project in your final year will give you experience in problem-solving, evaluating strengths and limitations, and making appropriate decisions in a real-world, team-based environment.
What You Will Learn
Common Platform Years 1 and 2
This program is one of eleven Bachelor of Commerce degrees built on a common two-year platform of business studies that gives students the time to decide their specialty. In years one and two, students learn the fundamentals of business, including accounting, business law, information systems, e-commerce, financial management, HR management, and marketing. Work Placement
The Humber Bachelor of Commerce – Finance program includes one full semester (14 weeks/490 hours) of paid work in the summer between your sixth and seventh semesters. This gives you the practical experience employers value. Your placement will give you the opportunity to work in the field you’d like to pursue once you graduate, and may include organizations such as:
- financial institutions
- small businesses
- not-for-profit organizations
- government offices
- major corporations.

Career Options
Both the private and public sectors are looking for financial analysts, managers, and accountants and the demand will only grow in the future. According to Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, there will be almost 23,000 financial sector jobs available by 2015. The majority of these will be in Toronto, the country’s financial and business hub. A Finance degree from Humber will help you work towards a career that will see you build, shape and support financial organizations.
Our program provides the knowledge, hands-on experience and skills necessary for you to become an analyst or consultant in:

You’ll also be positioned to pursue graduate studies or take on a more specialized role as a claims adjuster, mutual fund analyst, real estate appraiser, commercial banker or money manager. Your degree will provide credits towards industry designations, such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP) or Fellow, Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP). As a highly qualified financial expert, you’ll have the potential to be promoted to mid- or senior-management positions within five to 10 years. And if working for yourself appeals to you, you’ll have the know-how and experience to channel that entrepreneurial spirit and start your own business.
Professional Accreditation, Endorsement, and Recognition
Successful completion of the Bachelor of Commerce – Finance degree program provides credit towards the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Fellow, Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) designations. Students are encouraged to complete the designation(s) of their choosing upon graduation.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:
- Grade 12 English (ENG4U or equivalent) minimum 65 percent
- Grade 12 Mathematics (MDM4U, MCB4U, MGA4U, MCV4U or MHF4U or equivalent) minimum 60 percent (Students who do not possess Grade 12U Mathematics or who have achieved a grade below 60 percent may be considered for admission. Students will be required to complete a math equivalency course during their first semester at Humber. Additional course fees will apply.)
- Four Grade 12 U or M courses in addition to those listed above
- Overall minimum grade point average (GPA) 65 percent

- College or university transfer status
All applicants whose first language is not English must meet Humber’s English Language Proficiency Policy.
