Introduction
Business informatics builds on the findings of computer science and links them with the requirements of business, especially business administration. It thus represents a classic cross-sectional discipline. In terms of content, the business informatics bachelor's degree essentially deals with information and communication systems that are used to support business processes and for decision-making in companies and in public administration.
While computer science is essentially geared towards the development and programming of these systems, business informatics, for example, examines how these systems should be designed in order to be able to meet the requirements of various users in everyday business.

Business informatics as a key and cross-sectional discipline
The computer science than modern science for display, storage, transmission and processing of information more and more sustainable impact on our lives, our work and leisure in recent decades than any other science. As a key discipline, it encompasses a wide range of tasks, such as the structuring of processes, the establishment of networks and the conception, development and implementation of hardware and software systems.
The business informatics builds on the knowledge of the computer science and connects them with the requirements of the economy, especially the business administration. Business informatics thus plays an important role as a consultant and mediator between the wishes of system users, who generally have little computer science knowledge, and the requirements of skilled programmers and system developers. Further contents of business informatics range from questions of economic system design, the management of implementation projects to the financing and marketing of hardware and software solutions. For these far-reaching, interdisciplinary tasks, both in-depth knowledge from the field of computer science and from the field of business are required.

Curriculum
Course of studies for the business informatics bachelor's degree
The business informatics bachelor's degree at the Hochschule Schmalkalden Sciences is characterized by the teaching of well-founded methodological skills in core computer science subjects, which includes an extensive programming component and training in common application systems such as SAP. Our students learn to develop software systems themselves and adapt them to user needs (customizing). In addition, we convey business knowledge, which includes an evaluation of business processes from an economic point of view and techniques for decision-making. This wealth of experience at the interface between computer science and business administration enables our graduates to make well-founded decisions in the context of the design, use and maintenance of information systems.
Course content in the business informatics bachelor's degree
The 6-semester bachelor's degree is structured in such a way that in the first two semesters of the business informatics bachelor's degree, students are first taught the basics of computer science, mathematics and statistics and business administration. In the 3rd and 4th semester, selected areas of knowledge in business informatics can be deepened and supplemented by further elective subjects, which can be deepened in the 4th semester with an elective module depending on individual interests.
The 5th semester includes a practical phase that is completed in an external company. During the 15-week internship, our students gain insights into professional practice as part of their bachelor's degree in business informatics. The consistent practical orientation is an important advantage of the university graduates, which is very much appreciated by employers. Master's degree as a perspective
Compared to the previous diploma course, which previously included 8 semesters in the standard period of study at universities, a bachelor's degree in business informatics leads to a first professional qualification after just 6 semesters. By concentrating on the content and a conscious interplay of basic qualifying study content, a technical specialization and the integration of practice-relevant questions, one is fit for starting a career at the end of the bachelor's degree. The mandatory internship in the business informatics bachelor's degree also makes it easier to start your career, because you can already experience certain fields of a profession up close.
A good bachelor's degree also enables you to take up a master's degree. The master's program "Applied Media Informatics" is designed to deepen the scientific qualification in the field of interactive multimedia services and applications and to expand it in relation to the thematic focuses of interest. The research-led study according to areas of interest is promoted by a high degree of freedom of choice. Graduates of a master's degree can then work as specialists in a wide variety of practical areas. The Master's degree in "International Business and Economics" can also be pursued at the Faculty of Economics at our university. With a qualified master's degree, they can also start a doctorate at a university and start an academic career.
