Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Hasanuddin University was officially established on August 17th, 1963 with the name Faculty of Maths and Natural Sciences which comprised four departments: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. In its development, the faculty added one department, Pharmacy, so that the faculty consisted of five departments.
In 1977, Faculty of Maths and Natural Sciences and Faculty of Engineering were merged into one faculty with the name Faculty of Science and Technology. Six Years later, in 1983, the merged faculty was divided again into two different faculties; the science field became the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, while the technology field became the Faculty of Engineering again. Since the Pharmacy Department was upgraded into the Faculty of Pharmacy in 2005, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences comprised four departments as they were initially established.
After five decades, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has run the Master and Doctoral Programs, each of which is in the Departments of Chemistry and Mathematics. The Graduate Program in the Departments of Physics and Biology is still waiting for the approval from the General Director of the Higher Education. The alumni produced until December 2012 were approximately 6,000 graduates, 25 masters, 29 doctors.
