Bachelor of Arts in History

The Department of History seeks to provide a dynamic learning environment for the exploration of our collective human past in all its rich dimensions. Our department at Hardin-Simmons offers major and minor programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Behavioral Science degrees. The experienced faculty members of the department strive to assist students throughout their academic journey at HSU.

Our collective desire is to contribute to the liberal arts experience and general education of our students; to give them a fundamental knowledge and understanding of the social, political, cultural, and religious movements, and the most influential people as well the major events, discoveries, and advances which have shaped human history; to prepare our students to meet the challenges of teaching in the public schools, and to prepare them to meet the challenges of graduate study at an accredited institution of higher learning.

Our Vision

The Hardin-Simmons Department of History will be an academic community that provides a top-quality history education in a supportive environment both in and out of the classroom. Our students’ success will be facilitated by a committed faculty who will inspire students to become engaged, thoughtful citizens and life-long learners as they embrace the importance of understanding the richness and complexity of the human experience across cultures, continents, and time. We will endeavor to teach them critical, analytical, and research skills applicable to numerous potential career paths.
