Introduction
International Studies is a progressive, interdisciplinary major that trains students to work in an in-demand field. Applications are up at professional and graduate schools across the country, and employment opportunities in the public, private, and service sectors continue to grow. International Studies offers concentrations in International Relations or Latin American and Caribbean Studies.
Student Study Abroad Opportunities
The curricula of the International Studies major are structured to encourage and support study-abroad opportunities. Whether students choose faculty-led travel, prestigious international scholarships, or established educational companies that facilitate their study abroad ambitions, the department works closely with Hampton University’s International Office to ensure student safety and academic rigor. Students interested in studying abroad must meet with their departmental advisor and the department chairperson as soon as possible to help ensure that the date, extent, and content of the study abroad experience work in harmony with the student’s required curriculum in the major. Failure to plan appropriately or to achieve academic proficiency while studying abroad can delay graduation.
