Introduction
Immerse yourself in the cultures and languages of Central Eurasia
Tibet. Afghanistan. Iran. Turkey. The Baltics. These are just a few of the geographic regions you can focus on when you pursue a degree in Central Eurasian Studies.
Whatever region you choose, you’ll spend your academic life learning its languages and getting an in-depth understanding of its culture, history, and place in the modern world.
You’ll explore the region’s politics—both current and historical. You’ll get to know famous figures, like Genghis Khan and the Dalai Lama. And you’ll graduate with a deep understanding of what makes Central Eurasia great and what challenges it faces.
Take advantage of one-of-a-kind resources
Indiana University is home to the nation’s only National Foreign Language Resource Center devoted to the languages of Central Eurasia. The Center for Languages of the Central Asian Region provides you with unique research and learning opportunities. It also makes it possible to explore a variety of rarely taught languages, including Azerbaijani, Dari, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Mongolian, Pashto, Tajiki, Tibetan, Turkish, Turkmen, Uyghur, and Uzbek.
