The BSc (Hons) Computing programme equips you with the knowledge, understanding and skills required of a modern IT professional. If you want to study computing but haven't decided on a specific area of interest, this programme lets you personalise your studies and prepares you for a range of graduate roles.
In years 1 and 2 you will study the foundations of computing. In addition, you will develop the skills required to build computer systems utilising a range of technologies. In years 3 and 4 you will further develop expertise in core areas while being able to choose elective modules which allow you specialise in your chosen area of interest. Possible specialisations include mobile development, cloud systems development, secure software development, user experience development, advanced project management and Big Data.
The programme offers the possibility of undertaking an industry placement or to study abroad through Erasmus exchanges. Students are also encouraged to take part in activities with the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE). Our computing programmes are accredited by the Chartered Institute for IT (BCS).
Your career
Students can choose paths which prepare them for graduate roles such as software developer, web developer, user experience designer or IT manager.
International student start dates
For new international students, orientation events start on 14 September 2018. This extra time is specifically designed to assist new international students in settling into the UK and GCU prior to the start of general student induction and teaching.
There will be a whole host of fun and informative activities taking place during this period, including campus and city tours, as well as welcome events where you can meet other international students.
Work placement
This programme offers the possibility of undertaking an industrial based placement on completion of Year 3.
Study abroad
There are opportunities for students to study abroad through Erasmus exchanges and they are also encouraged to take part in International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) activities.

Assessment methods
Assessment methods used include: unseen written examinations, coursework assignments (individual and group based), class tests (both unseen and open-book), practical laboratory tests (both unseen and open-book) and presentations (individual and group based). In project modules students produce an artefact, individual and group reports and also give presentations. Most coursework assignments involve undertaking a significant element of independent study and implementing associated practical tasks within a given deadline.
