The perfect location

Swiss Alps. Glacial lakes. Mediterranean climate. An Italian flavor. An international population. This is the city we call home: Lugano, Switzerland. Franklin’s founders chose Lugano as the perfect location for the kind of school they had envisioned for all of these reasons and more. Lugano’s cosmopolitan character is central to the experience of life at Franklin, and the campuses are only a twenty-minute walk from the center of Lugano, where rail and airlines connect students with all of Europe. Visit Franklin and see why so many students feel at home on our campus and in the Lugano community. We welcome you, your friends and family to experience what it means to live and learn in our international environment.

A Boundless Exploratory Education

Boundless: not limited in any way; having no boundaries We know that there are always limits to where you can go and what you can do while getting your degree, but we try to challenge those boundaries as far as they will go. At other universities, boundaries can include inflexible curricula, rigid social traditions, academic calendars that discourage travel and a college microculture that interacts little with the surrounding community. Franklin takes a different approach. With degree programs that offer many opportunities for interdisciplinary experiences, Academic Travel and direct interaction with a multilingual Swiss community, crossing physical and social borders will become second-nature to you. The Franklin curriculum is as focused or as interdisciplinary as you want it to be. We offer quality academic programs taught by capable scholars – if we didn't, we wouldn't be accredited in two countries – but we go beyond the more direct path to offer many majors with multiple emphases, such as International Management with an emphasis in Marketing, or Visual Communication Arts with an emphasis in Fashion Studies. We offer the opportunity to combine majors, such as Economics with Italian Studies or Psychology with Communication and Media Studies, and many of our students double-major or take multiple minors. Additionally, Franklin is small. Many of the opportunities to experience leadership roles, such as student government, academic mentorship, student clubs or resident assistants, are very attainable goals for students that want to pursue them. As anyone at Franklin will tell you,Franklin is what you make of it.

Exploratory: done or created to find something or to learn more about something Franklin was founded by people who believed that interacting with other cultures directly through travel was an essential learning experience, and that it was the only way to create understanding between people of different nations. Academic Travel has always been a fundamental part of the Franklin curriculum. How many universities can plot their courses on a world map? Education: the knowledge, skill, and understanding that you gain from attending a school, college, or university The value of a Franklin education is more than just accumulating information to be applied in your career field. The Franklin experience will open your mind to the world, and you will gain a real human understanding that will give you the tools you need to become a leader. Leadership is about understanding people, their desires, and differences, and Franklin's interdisciplinary, cross-cultural curriculum, location and international student/faculty population create the perfect environment for developing that understanding. Our alumni are team leaders and entrepreneurs who add value to multinational companies, new ventures, government and non-profit organizations in multiple countries around the world. They do not stop at boundaries and they innovate to forge new paths. It is the Franklin Experience that gives them the tools to succeed. This is Boundless Exploratory Education.

Campus Features

Living in the residences on Franklin University Switzerland’s campus is an important part of the educational experience. It is a great opportunity to make your first friends on campus and adjust to living alone. Most of the rooms have kitchenettes or a common kitchen shared among all residents of the resident hall. They all have bathrooms; so you’ll have your privacy and will be able to take responsibility for you own living space.

There are eight residence halls at Franklin, and each one has a trained Resident Assistant. The RA is your go-to person for questions or problems. They are equipped with first-aid kits, toolboxes, and are trained to handle any and all situations that students might face. There are two RAs on duty every night. During their duty shifts, also known as ‘rounds’, the RAs walk through each residence hall to ensure things are safe and sound. In addition, RAs organize events and activities to do on campus and around town. They strive to provide students a truly spectacular Franklin experience through everything that they do.

    Scholarships and Funding

Over 85 percent of Franklin students receive financial aid. As an institution Franklin offers scholarships based on academic merit and financial need. Additionally, students may receive aid from various external programs based on citizenship, need, and other factors. Together we create a financial aid package and carefully guide you through your financing options to help you afford your education.

    Franklin University Switzerland Institutional Scholarships

These scholarships are awarded based upon academic merit or demonstrated financial need and are considered “free” money because they do not require repayment. These discounts are renewable annually provided the student meets the designated requirements. There are two types of institutional awards:

    Merit Scholarships

Merit scholarships are awarded upon admittance to the University and are based upon academic achievement. Every applicant is automatically reviewed for merit scholarships, but priority is given to students who apply for admission by our December 1 deadline. After December 1 students may be considered for merit scholarships, but only if funds are available. Notice of the merit award amount is included with the official admission letter.

    Financial Aid/Need-based Scholarships

Need-based scholarships are based upon a family's demonstrated financial need. We take into consideration household income, assets, family size, the number of students attending universities simultaneously, and other factors. These awards are sent out on a rolling basis after admission, and after the FAFSA is completed (for U.S. students). Students who are not U.S. citizens or residents complete a similar institutional application on Net Partner and are awarded based on the same criteria.
