Introduction
What is a Leadership Degree?
The leadership and social responsibility degree program is designed for students who are interested in taking a leadership role in organizations and promoting socially responsible behavior, high ethical standards, and a positive impact on their world.
Whether you want to be a business executive, an innovative entrepreneur, or be involved in social corporate responsibility, a leadership degree from Florida Tech develops strong skills in leadership and a concentrated background in socially responsible behavior and high ethical standards.
A Stellar Faculty Brings the Latest Developments Right into the Classroom
Students who specialize in leadership and social responsibility as part of their business administration degree learn how to apply critical thinking to evaluate corporate social responsibility. With student success of utmost importance at Florida Tech, professors make sure that students are privy to valuable industry knowledge and expertise. Our experienced faculty members have diverse backgrounds and work diligently to provide qualified instruction using real-world experiences in hands-on projects, events, promotions, and internships.
The Nathan M. Bisk College of Business Delivers an International Leadership Perspective
Students learn alongside their international peers both on-campus and through virtual teams, bringing together students from around the globe using cloud and web technologies. Students have an opportunity to study abroad, take advantage of international internships, participate in innovative class projects and business competitions, and work closely with high-quality faculty who have expertise in various international business disciplines such as economics, accounting, management, finance, and marketing.
Global management program students hone their finance and international business skills through competitions, including:
- Strategic Management Intercollegiate Case Competition
- Cadillac Case Competition, where Florida Tech students placed fourth among 53 universities
- ANGA Collegiate Energy Challenge
- Honda CRZ Social Marketing Challenge
- Florida National Guard Promotion Challenge
Superb Undergraduate Research Opportunities
There are also many opportunities for hands-on learning, particularly through our Center for Entrepreneurship and New Business Development, which focuses on entrepreneurial education, global innovation, and practical research in pursuit of new venture creation, sustainability, social value creation, and venture acceleration; and our Center for Ethics and Leadership, which promotes the practice of ethical behavior and effective leadership by engaging in activities that provide a forum for research, discussion, and a better understanding of ethics and leadership among all stakeholders in society. Key initiatives in the global management program include an ethics and leadership breakfast, an intercollegiate ethics competition, a leadership conference, and projects about corporate social responsibility.
Located in the Heart of Florida’s High-Tech Corridor
Florida Tech is the perfect place for a Leadership and Social Responsibility degree. The 130-acre campus is located on the Space Coast (so named because of the presence of NASA and the Kennedy Space Center on Cape Canaveral just north of us), minutes away from the Indian River Lagoon, the most diverse estuary in North America.
The area has the fifth-largest high-tech workforce in the country, with more than 5,000 high-tech corporations and government and military organizations located nearby. This workforce also provides an abundance of internship and employment opportunities.
Florida Tech is just over the causeway from the Atlantic Ocean with its 72 miles of beautiful beaches, and a short trip to the Florida Keys or the Orlando theme parks. We also have a rich campus life that includes a wide range of intramural and collegiate sports, clubs, and social activities.
Build Lasting Professional Relationships through Campus Organizations
Beyond the classroom, leadership degree majors build leadership experience and develop leadership experience through participation in academic organizations like the Society for the Advancement of Management, the International Business Club, student government, and over 100 other student organizations.
The business honor society Delta Mu Delta helps students make connections nationally and internationally as they prepare to enter a global job market. Delta Mu Delta also helps develop academic excellence in business students. The Florida Tech Entrepreneur Club also allows students to meet with local entrepreneurs to learn more about business firsthand and exchange creative ideas.
Peerless Study and Internship Opportunities
A leadership internship at a local business provides Florida Tech students with an opportunity to test their skills in a real-world environment. By forging relationships with companies through these internships, students can work at many well-known companies, including:
- Northrop Grumman
- Clear Channel Outdoor
- Merrill Lynch
- Harris Corporation
- Kennedy Space Center

Gain Practical Experience
A leadership degree at Florida Tech gives students an opportunity to apply critical thinking to evaluate corporate social responsibility. This involves learning how to apply leadership theories and practices in dramatically improving the quality of life for workforces, families, and society as a whole.
In this professional internship course, you apply your business skills and savvy to a dynamic local company. The Nathan M. Bisk College of Business developed partnerships with local businesses such as Northrop Grumman, Clear Channel Outdoor, Merrill Lynch, Harris Corporation, and Kennedy Space Center. As a result, you get practical experience, an expanded professional network, and perhaps even a pre-graduation job offer.
One of the reasons why students choose the Nathan M. Bisk College of Business at Florida Tech as their leadership college of choice is because our learning environment includes personalized support by faculty and staff. Students benefit from small class sizes and intensive interaction with faculty mentors, giving them hands-on building experiences, insight into industries and disciplines of interest, and a global perspective on business and management practices.
Bridge Classroom Learning and Real-World Experience in the Major Field Practicum
In addition to a leadership internship, the Major Field Practicum, a six-hour community service requirement, allows students to gather work experience in a local business while helping their community. Each student is matched with a host organization of interest where he or she learns how the organization functions and gains practical insight into problem-solving and decision-making processes.
Students also may be invited to independent study and research positions alongside faculty, where they can learn and participate in the creation of marketing knowledge or in servicing a real client. Students also gain experience in corporate social responsibility by becoming actively engaged in a community organization. These experiences enhance classroom learning and prepare students for success during their leadership internships and in preparation for future careers.
Peerless Study Abroad Opportunities
Students develop real-world global management skills through culturally rich study abroad programs. Some of these study-abroad locations include:
- England (Oxford)
- Spain
- Italy (Rome, Florence, and Venice)
- The Netherlands
- Taichung, Taiwan
As our students study in Europe and Asia, they visit corporations to see how multinational companies deal with a global economy.

Career Opportunities
Career Outlook
Whether you embark on a leadership career immediately after graduation or wait to complete graduate school, a Florida Tech degree will prepare you well for opportunities in commerce, industry, government, or international law.
The Occupational Outlook Handbook, published by the US Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, provides detailed information about hundreds of occupations, including, entry-level education, overall working environment, and employment prospects. According to the Bureau, employment among managers in finance and international business will continue to grow as the economy grows, and as more companies expand their businesses abroad.
One of the most desirable leadership careers is that occupied by management analysts. The Bureau estimates that employment for management analysts is expected to grow 22% between 2010 and 2020. Much of the growth is a result of US organizations expanding their businesses abroad. These companies need professionals with the skills necessary to develop successful strategies for competing in the international arena.
Large organizations may have several layers of administrative managers who specialize in different areas such as operations, IT, finance and accounting, marketing, facilities, and sales. As companies become more sophisticated and implement different employee and business initiatives, social responsibility is a new area that demands skilled business managers.
