Introduction
Of all the Fairmont State University Engineering programs, the Mechanical Engineering Technology program is the broadest and most diverse.
The hands-on experiences are distinct. By using advanced mathematics, science, and problem-solving students complete the program with tangible projects.
Mechanical Engineering Technology students formulate, design, fabricate, test, and compete for their racecars, robots, and industrial devices at the nation's top engineering campuses.
If steering needs adjustment, they adjust it. If a part needs to be machined, they machine it. If a design needs to be perfected, they perfect it.
Students in the Mechanical Engineering Technology program can pursue a 2 or 4-year degree. Students solve complex mechanical problems while they learn by doing. Classes are small. Students interact, one-to-one with talented, highly trained, and internationally recognized faculty.
Accreditation
The Mechanical Engineering Technology program is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission (ETAC) of ABET.
Program Outcome
- An ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
- An ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
- An ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
- An ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes; and
- An ability to function effectively as a member as well as a leader on technical teams.
