Introduction
Presentation
The civil engineer works in the construction and civil installation sectors. It is the professional who designs, manages and analyzes works in houses, buildings, highways, railways, airports, water supply and sanitation systems, ports, rivers, canals, dams, dikes, drainage, irrigation, bridges and other structures. Its performance also includes soil and subsoil analysis, expertise and surveys, budgets, study of insolation, ventilation and definition of the type of foundations.
Faced with this range of possibilities, the Civil Engineering Course at FEAMIG seeks to establish a strong foundation in mathematics and basic sciences, in engineering tools, design, management and production, and application of Civil Engineering technologies. In addition to a broad basic training, the course offers the possibility of concentrating studies in topography, georeferencing and civil construction in general.
Course Objectives
The purpose of the Civil Engineering Course at FEAMIG is to train Civil Engineers through working with knowledge. This training process has two components: one refers to technical-scientific training, which is distinguished by the handling and elaboration of knowledge, in the sense that the professional becomes capable of analyzing reality, conceiving and practicing creative solutions; another is the sociopolitical training component, inherent to the work process with knowledge as a historical construction, characterized by a humanistic and ecological orientation, in the sense that the professional becomes capable of participating and intervening in society.
In order to achieve this purpose, the proposed training course aims to:
- training in the scientific areas of mathematics, physics and chemistry, with a view to solid basic training on which technological training in Civil Engineering is based;
- an overview of Engineering, which allows professionals to contextualize the problems addressed and situate their actions, as well as to identify their specific training among the different Engineering modalities;
- the formation of specific Civil Engineer skills, with emphasis on topography, georeferencing and civil construction in general;
- the incorporation of new information and communication technologies, with special attention to their use in Civil Engineering;
- the social and ethical training of Civil Engineers, so that they are able to combine science and technology, proposing ways to intervene in reality in order to guarantee sustained human development.
Course Duration/Shifts
The course is organized in a semiannual serial regime and is organized into 10 semesters, with a total workload of 3840 clock-hours of useful time. The operating shifts are day and night, and other schedules may be used, in case of eventual need. The night period also includes the day period on Saturdays.
