About Us
At the European Forensic Institute, our primary mission is to provide an innovative learning environment where learners connect directly with professionals working in all areas of investigative sciences. We specialize in the fields of Forensic Science, Criminology, Digital Forensics, and Investigative and Intelligence Sciences with the aim of bringing together experts in their fields with students and professionals. Innovation is at the forefront of what we do, and we are continuously evolving our programs to meet the needs of professional life and the most modern requirements of the forensic and investigative field. The programs are orientated toward the skills and knowledge required to meet the requirements of 21st Century forensic services supporting criminal justice.
“At the European Forensic Institute, we pride ourselves on providing a truly distinctive learning environment where learners connect directly with professionals working in all areas of investigative sciences” explains the Head of the Institute, Mr. Andreas Melinato who is also a forensic engineer and expert in fire investigation and road accident reconstruction. He continues “we are fortunate to work with professionals from a broad spectrum of expertise, from Crime Scene Investigation to Digital Forensics and Natural Sciences in Chemistry and Biology to Data Sciences in Information Technology and even Machine Learning and Blockchain. Each expert brings a unique point of view to the table, contributing to the diversity in thought and discussion invaluable to students”.
The experience of our academic team stems from many professional service sectors including public sector policing, judiciary, academic, and counseling to private sector investigators, natural scientists, data scientists, engineers, and experts in IT, financial services, and law. Our collaboration includes a close working relationship with the most prestigious Forensic Science Associations globally. In addition to the abundance of knowledge available for transfer, students also benefit immensely from learning about the skills and competencies required of a professional directly from the expert giving them a head start in their careers.
Mr Robert Milne, Dean of Applied Science at the Institute with over 40 years of experience at the Scotland Yard and a Forensic Intelligence pioneer adds, “the blended teaching model where students learn the theory online and then meet up for practical laboratory work is game-changing, allowing for busy professionals to connect with students seamlessly. Teaching is frequently underrated but at the Institute, this highly fulfilling job is made accessible and truly valued. In addition, academic staff and students are encouraged to become members of the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences (CSFS) giving them access to the latest research and access to their peers”.
Our core staff consist of a talented team with distinguished professional experiences in their own respective fields. As a growing enterprise, we are also continuously building our team through new recruits and ensuring sufficient training and apprenticeship for our newer members of staff.

Where we are
The European Forensic Institute is located in the futuristic Malta Life Sciences Park (MLSP). The MLSP was conceived by the country’s economic development agency, Malta Enterprise, to provide an international class facility for life sciences and information technology development. The MLSP is designed to promote research and development and spur the growth of the life sciences sector in Malta, building on the base that the country developed in the pharmaceutical industry during the last decade.
Co-financed through the European Regional Development Funds, the MLSP is divided into two main components: the Malta Life Sciences Centre and the Malta Digital Hub. In total, there are currently 13,500sqm of space comprising laboratories, offices, a seminar room, meeting rooms, and various shared facilities.
The MLSP supports and encourages growth and success among its tenants, offering a stimulating environment for knowledge-intensive companies. Regardless of a company’s size or stage of development, the MLSP offers access to experienced and professional business and financial advice, as well as assistance for internationalization. A well-balanced combination of entrepreneurial and industrial competence is essential for the growth and development of every company, and at the MLSP there are no limits on a company’s opportunity to continually improve, develop and grow.
