Introduction
An athletic trainer is a qualified allied health care professional, educated and experienced in the management of health care problems associated with sport participation. In cooperation with physicians and other allied health care personnel, the athletic trainer functions as an integral member of the athletic health care team in secondary schools, colleges and universities, professional sports programs, sports medicine clinics, and other athletic health care settings.
Through a combination of formal classroom instruction and clinical experience, the program prepares graduates to assume entry-level positions in the athletic training profession and provides a foundation for advanced study in athletic training. The student must satisfactorily complete all academic requirements as well as the supervised practical experience hours as set forth by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) guidelines for Athletic Trainers. The ETBU Department of Kinesiology does not guarantee that each person admitted to the Athletic Training Education Program will pass all elements of the program or that those graduating from the program will be able to pass the licensing exam. The attainment of these goals is dependent upon the degree to which the students diligently apply themselves to their studies.
