Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) - in terms of student and staff number, quality of education and research, and its international relations - is a prestigious institution of public higher education in Hungary, operating continuously since its inception in 1635. As a top-ranked research university in Hungary, it is the most popular higher education institution among applicants as well as alma mater of five Nobel laureates and leading figures in technology, public policy, and culture in Hungary. ELTE has widespread international relations. It holds bilateral agreements for cooperation and exchange with about 600 higher education institution partners. It is an active member of prestigious international university networks and involved in joint degree programs. Currently, 33,000 students study at eight faculties at ELTE with about 3,500 international students from over 100 countries. ELTE offers 52 bachelor’s programs, 112 master’s programs, 313 undivided teacher training major pairings, and over 100 degree programs offered in foreign languages (mainly English) to international students. ELTE is Hungary’s largest scientific establishment with 16 doctoral schools and 128 doctoral programs.

Joint programs
The EIT IDigital Master’s Program and the Master’s Program in History at the Atelier Department of the Faculty of Humanities (the first Erasmus Mundus program coordinated by a Hungarian university) are two outstanding examples of our programs offering certifications in collaboration with the best European universities.
Summer universities
The ELTE Hungarian Summer University of the Carpathian Basin offers the youth of Hungarian minorities in neighboring countries the opportunity to expand their scientific knowledge in a specific area of their respective fields: the popular program has more than 150 participants each year. ELTE offers numerous other courses, such as the ELTE Summer University of Hungarian Language and Culture, Health Technology Assessment, Heidelberg University – ELTE Joint Summer University Program.
CHARM-EU
CHARM-EU is a European University alliance, co-funded by the Erasmus + Programme, between the University of Barcelona (coordinator), Trinity College Dublin, Utrecht University, the University of Montpellier and Eötvös Loránd University Budapest. CHARM-EU works together to design and create a new university model to become a world example of good practice to increase the quality, international competitiveness and attractiveness of the European Higher Education landscape.
CHARM-EU represents a Challenge-Driven, Accessible, Research-based and Mobile model for the co-creation of a European University aligned with the European Values, the European Green Deal and the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
