Introduction

Geoinformatics is the engineering science that synthesizes various other scientific fields for the mapping, study and management of three-dimensional space in the form of geographic and other data, with the aim of supporting decisions about decisions related to environmental and social management. A leading feature of modern Geoinformatics engineering is the combined use of state-of-the-art technological systems such as geographic information systems (GIS), satellite positioning technologies (GPS), aerial photography and satellite imagery analysis and processing technologies. The applications of Geoinformatics span a wide range of functions such as infrastructure planning and management, environmental protection, archeology and heritage protection, cartography, blue development and public health.

The program is four years long and includes compulsory foundation courses and advanced specialization courses, English language courses for academic purposes and elective and in-depth courses.

The program offers high-level theoretical scientific knowledge through courses in geodesy, geology, static mechanics, remote sensing, soil mechanics, photogrammetry, cartography, geography and spatial analysis, satellite geodesy, urban planning, radiometry, GIS applications etc. During the summer periods, after the 4th and 6th semesters of study, all students are placed for internship purposes (6 weeks per term) in organizations in fields related to their studies. In addition, they carry out large geodetic exercises lasting 100 hours and practical exercises on specific subjects lasting 2 weeks. During the 4th year of study, students prepare a thesis under the supervision of academics of the Department.

First year courses are shared with the Civil Engineering program. In the following years of study there is a gradually decreasing overlap, while specialization and flexibility in the choice of specialized courses increase in the final years. From their third year of study, students have the opportunity to diversify their specialization by choosing various courses from three course streams. These course streams fully cover the core knowledge of Infrastructure Engineering (INFRA), Building Statistics (DOMO) and Geoinformatics (GEO).

Graduates are registered as members of the Scientific and Technical Chamber of Cyprus (ETEK) enjoying all the professional rights of an Engineer.
