Introduction
This course is designed for learners who aim to enhance their knowledge of the English language and literature while engaging with education themes, including teaching young learners and English testing and management.
Course Overview
The course aims to prepare students to become effective teachers, managers or leaders in a variety of educational settings e.g. state and private higher education institutions, colleges and schools, as well as language academies, testing centres, consultancies or governmental agencies.
- You will have the opportunity to study a diverse range of modules on language/linguistics, literature, teaching English and education management.
- The course prepares you to be informed managers in a time of global complexity as well as digitally literate global citizens.
- As part of the Teaching Young Learners module, you will have the opportunity to undertake the TKT: YL which is a Teaching Knowledge Test module accredited by Cambridge English.

The course has been designed for learners who aim to enhance their knowledge of English while at the same time engage with education management and English teaching and assessment themes with the purpose of either obtaining better employment or becoming more effective managers in education settings.
On successful completion you will be able to:
- critically analyse modern literary works from a variety of global contexts
- critically evaluate and apply the principles underlying the teaching, learning and testing process with a focus on effective classroom management
- solve problems around different education management scenarios in different contexts
- deploy a range of intercultural competencies and recognise how language underpins intercultural interactions and transactions
- apply advanced communication skills, both written and oral, in various social, academic and professional contexts, and across various landscapes including in person, on paper and online
- be an independent, critical researcher who can effectively navigate and interpret information, make use of evidence, and communicate findings
- meet deadlines and challenges with resilience and confidence in order to perform successfully in a range of postgraduate roles.
Job destinations could include civil service roles, international recruitment officers, language centre directors, English Examiners, university lecturers, school teachers, academic consultants and course leaders and a wide range of academic leadership roles.
