Introduction

Bachelors in Fashion Design and/or Tailoring and Fashion Techniques

The Bachelors in Fashion Design and/or Tailoring and Fashion Techniques is a 3-year program that prepares students to work in the Fashion Industry. The program allows students to master the conceptual tools and techniques necessary to deployment of his/her creativity and the translation into a visual and technical language specific to fashion. The future Fashion Designer or Tailor will be able to create a garment or accessory from conception, through to sketches and the creation of prototypes, whether it be a unique piece or a part of a collection or industrial assembly design.

The student will be capable of capturing a trend, of decoding it and having a unique take on the latest fashion and aesthetic movements through applied personal work to develop a unique and individual style and an efficient and high-quality means of production. After completing the Fashion Design and/or Tailoring and Fashion Techniques, the student will master the conceptualization, fashion drawing, pattern-making, sewing techniques needed to create high-quality garments and accessories. Students will be introduced to technical software for pattern-making and cutting such as Lectra along with the tailoring technical aspects of creating unique pieces.

The professional fashion designer or tailor is called upon to interpret life-style and fashion trends in order to create garments and accessories that meet a client’s expectations and/or embody a brand’s aesthetic and ethos. The graduate in Fashion Design and/or Tailoring will have acquired a professionalism, dynamism and versatility necessary in order to rigorously translate his/her ideas into high quality garments and accessories.

The work of the fashion designer consists among other things in translating fashion and life style trends into garment and accessory designs keeping in mind the evolution of aesthetic and artistic trends and movements. As for the tailor, his/her work lies in creating efficient and cutting-edge patterns and design techniques for the most effective garment and accessory designs that respond to the needs of future consumers.
