Introduction
Digital Game Design
In our day, especially with the developments in mobile platforms and internet technologies, computer games have become rather prevalent in our country, as they are across the world, and have turned into a popular media consumed by wide masses without differentiation across gender or age.
‘The Digital Game Design Undergraduate Program’, which will become a forerunner in our country and Istanbul in particular with an approach that joins various disciplines like art, technology and economy under the roof of design, aims to provide qualified human resources to the sector and develop creative, innovative projects and teams in order to achieve both local and global scale success.
The Digital Game Design Undergraduate Program established under the Faculty of Communication, with its interdisciplinary approach does not only unite the software, art and design domains but offers an interdisciplinary working environment across our university and the Faculties of Engineering and Education in particular. Students, who will come together in foundation classes in their freshman year, will take their first steps towards specialization in their sophomore year by selecting one of the software and art verticals under the roof of the design according to their talents. Students’ routes will once again intersect in the project classes, where they will transform into game teams and produce together with the consultancy of our academic staff. Local and international internships are practised through the COOP system within the scope of our university, which brings students together with the business world during their student lives, and the BUG sectoral communications network enhances students’ experiences and updates their knowledge base.
Besides the Bahçeşehir University Game Lab (BUG) established as part of the Faculty of Communication and the Game Design Graduate Program (Master BUG) formed within the scope of the Social Sciences Institute, the European game scene activation centre BUG Berlin and the game production studio BUG Pro foundations directly contribute to the program. This program, which creates a significant difference by working in integration with the virtual reality incubation centre VR First BAU and Cryengine Academy established in collaboration with the world gaming giant Crytek, can be considered a pioneer in our country.
While students can benefit from the continuously increasing international connections as well as the local and foreign-wide sectoral communications network of the department, they also get the chance to meet with investors by applying to acceleration programs like Gamebootcamp İstanbul – a StartersHub initiative, again supported by us.
This program which offers all the game production stages both in theory and practice to everyone who dreams of becoming a game designer, provides its students with the opportunity to accomplish their goals in a global sector.
