Introduction
The Department of Tourism and Hotel Management aims to train students for management positions in the tourism sector, one of the broadest service sectors in Turkey. Managers in this sector should have not only the basic knowledge necessary to organize a wide range of touristic activities and manage hotels, but also advanced skills in their fields of specialization.
The first year focuses on basic business and tourism, aiming to provide students with the required knowledge and skills for hospitality management. The second year offers a comprehensive program enabling students to specialize in fields such as the front office, housekeeping, and food and beverage management. Education is enriched by modern computer laboratories including Internet access, a rich archive of slides and videocassettes, a practice kitchen, restaurant, bar and banquet hall.
Students are given practical training in hotel and travel establishments under the control of the School of Applied Sciences. They also have the opportunity to practice in Patalya Lakeside Resort Hotel and Patalya Thermal Resort Hotel, which belong to Başkent University.
Students take the English Proficiency Examination before starting the program. Those whose English is not at the required level attend the Intensive English Program for one academic year. Students also take English for Specific Purposes courses during the four years of the undergraduate program.
