Introduction

The cinema created its own narrative with the help of the knowledge of pioneer art forms from the end of 19th century until today, and turned into one of the world’s most effective and important narrative arts. As one of the branches of fine arts, it also has the feature of being a commercially creative industry by its being able to reach a wide range of audience because of its audio-visual structure. The cinema, which carried the movement to screen with a technical invention, is a technological field that is developing day by day, which also reveals the cinema-industry relationship.

Each movie’s reflecting the social, economical and political structure of the society that it revealed from, brings the necessity of filmmaking education to be versatile. Considering the function of cinema’s ideological influence and the representations that legitimize certain values and sovereign institutions, the nature of shaping as well as reflecting the society becomes clear. And this gives filmmaker a different responsibility. In any given art form, the way to become an efficient artist comes through using the unique techniques specific to that art form efficiently and inhabiting the cognitive foundation that can transform that technique into narrative.

In this direction, Filmmaking students follow an educational program structured with creative and technological based courses like movement, image, scenario, directing, editing, production, sound design, art direction as well as general art culture, liberal culture and language courses. They also gain awareness about cinema production and distribution chain with a comprehensive historical harness on World and Turkey cinema. The education mentality shaped with Bologna process enable students to improve themselves with elective courses from scriptwriting to shooting and editing and different genres such as documentary, animation, fiction and experimental on their preferred theoretical and practical proficiency fields.
