Introduction
The Bachelor of Tourism Management (BTM) is a unique three-year, 21-course programme designed for students seeking employment in professional roles in the tourism industry leading to future leadership positions. Graduates will learn to integrate relevant theory, analytical tools, and applied skills to implement best practice across a broad range of tourism management functions.
Job Opportunities
National tourist offices, travel agencies, reservations, marketing and sales, events organization and management, tour operators, airlines, and transportation companies, resorts and hospitality providers, heritage bodies, environment and conservation agencies, customer service.
Programme Information
The BTM is designed to meet the needs of students seeking positions of responsibility in the growing domestic and international tourism sectors. Students will gain an in-depth knowledge of a range of tourism topics, and a strong foundation in the key aspects of management, marketing, and economics, to prepare them for managerial roles in the tourism industry.
The programme comprises 21 courses, including:
14 courses from Level 5 and Level 6 Tourism and Travel programmes

Plus three elective courses, including at least one at Stage 3, selected from Tourism Management, Hospitality Management or Business. (Electives include 3.301 Tourism Industry Practice).
Entry Requirements
- A minimum of 14 NCEA credits in each of 3 subjects at Level 3, and a minimum of 14 numeracy credits at Level 1 or higher, and a minimum of 8 literacy credits at Level 2 or higher; or
- Successful tertiary study; or
- Successful completion of a Level 4 qualification in Tourism and Travel; or
- Equivalent overseas qualification; and
- IELTS 6.0 with no band less than 5.5 / TOEFL iBT 60 (with a writing score of 18) / Pearson 50 / TEP 52 or equivalent with no band less than 12; and
- 17 years and over
