Introduction
Students in this W. P. Carey School of Business BS program in economics choose from various electives offered by the Department of Economics and many other ASU departments. All students are encouraged to develop programs of study tailored to individual needs and interests.
The undergraduate program provides students with the critical thinking and communication skills needed to succeed in business or graduate school. The program of study can also be tailored to prepare students for graduate programs in economics, business or law. Students interested in pursuing a doctorate in economics are also strongly encouraged to minor or major in mathematics.
The department's mission is to provide students with the highest quality instruction, conduct advanced economics research, and provide leadership and service to professional communities.
As a STEM-designated program, this degree offers eligible graduates on student visas access to an Optional Practical Training extension for up to 36 months. This longer work authorization term may help international students gain additional skills and experience in the U.S.
STEM-OPT for international students on F-1 visas
This program may be eligible for an Optional Practical Training extension for up to 24 months. This OPT work authorization term may help international students gain skills and experience in the U.S. Those interested in an OPT extension should review ASU degrees that qualify for the STEM-OPT extension at ASU's International Students and Scholars Center website.
