Introduction
Engineers use science, technology, and math to solve problems and create solutions. In today’s interconnected world, they also need to be excellent communicators, collaborators, and critical thinkers. As an engineering student at Albion, you’ll gain the skills fostered by a liberal arts education while you build your foundational technical knowledge. Then, you’ll transfer to an engineering school to finish your advanced studies.
Why Study Engineering at Albion?
The Dual Degree Program in Engineering (DDPE) at Albion offers the best of both worlds: a liberal arts foundation and a rigorous engineering education. You’ll spend three years at Albion developing a strong background in science and mathematics, as well as critical thinking and communication skills.
Then, you’ll transfer to an engineering school, typically a larger research university, where you’ll complete an additional two years of advanced engineering study.
You’ll graduate with two degrees: a bachelor of arts degree from Albion in your chosen major—typically mathematics, physics, or chemistry—and a bachelor of science in engineering from your transfer school.

Transfer Process
We’re here to help make your transfer to an engineering school seamless. Our agreement with Columbia University in New York guarantees admission to students who meet certain coursework and GPA requirements. Our relationship with the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor facilitates an easy transfer for qualified students.

You’ll build your scientific and technical knowledge base with our core coursework in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and computer science.
Prepare for more advanced studies by choosing additional track-specific coursework in general engineering, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, computer/electrical engineering, environmental/geoengineering, or industrial/financial engineering.
Our liberal arts curriculum will broaden your perspectives and develop skills like written and oral communication, creative and analytical thinking, and cross-cultural understanding—all of which will set you apart as an engineer beginning your career.
