They begin with a foundation year where students have the opportunity to experience all of our visual disciplines: Graphic Design, Photography, Art Direction, Illustration, and Multimedia, before choosing a major visual subject to take through to their third year. This allows for a unique understanding of visual communication as well as an opportunity for our students to truly curate their learning according to their avenues of talent and interest. We combine this practice with subjects like Marketing, Business Leadership, Discourse, and Visual Studies, ensuring our students are at the forefront of an industry that is constantly evolving. The five majors (Applied Illustration, Art Direction, Graphic Design, Multimedia & Photography) focus on creative and industry-related practical knowledge and skills, with the remaining three components delivering vital context and theory that set our graduates apart in the South African job market.

Most Creative Writing programs are in the postgraduate domain. The Bachelor of Creative Writing at AFDA is one of the few fully-fledged undergraduate degrees in this field on offer in the country. The Bachelor of Creative Writing provides a project-led qualification in the art of writing. At the heart of all work in the industry is story – and the AFDA Creative Writing program focuses on developing students to create strong stories in a variety of formats.

The Bachelor of Education Honours in Leadership and Management is the very first online honours programme in Africa with six starts a year and offers just that. It is a specialised qualification with a strong focus on research and aims to develop research capacity and academic scholarship.

The BEd (Foundation Phase Teaching) program entails the teaching of young children between 3 and 9 years. Students doing the program have a choice to specialize in Early Childhood Development (3 to 6 years) or Foundation Phase (Grades 1 to 3) fields.

The purpose of this program is to provide students with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of contemporary world politics and related changes in the international system. This will enable them, once they are employed in the public or private sector, to respond in an innovative and proactive manner to the problems and challenges of globalisation.

The purpose of this package is to equip learners with the required knowledge and practical skills to effectively manage human resources in any organisation. These include: perception (study, research); evaluation (appraisal, measuring, selection, placing, problem identification); optimal utilisation and influencing (change, training, development, motivation, negotiation and management) of human behaviour in its interaction with the environment (physical, psychological, social, organisational) as it manifests itself in the world of work.

The Department of Anatomy forms part of the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences and it offers a BSc degree in Medical Sciences in the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. Students are trained in the basic medical sciences, which include clinical anatomy, physical and forensic anthropology, histology, cell biology and embryology. These subjects can be combined with elective modules from physiology, pharmacology and genetics. Ideally, students who register for this degree should have a keen interest in research related to anatomy and the basic medical sciences.

The Degree of Bachelor of Commerce (Information Systems) is designed for learners who wish to specialize in one of the computing-related disciplines, namely, Information Systems.
