The comprehensive major in nanoscience is the study of structures in nanometer size which is smaller than cells but larger than most molecules. At Northwest, this interdisciplinary majors focuses on providing practical laboratory experiences, isolating DNA and synthesizing nanoparticles to construct solar cells. Students can choose to specialize in nanoscale biology, nanoscale chemistry or nanoscale physics.

A major in marketing at Northwest is an interdisciplinary program that provides students an opportunity to interact with surrounding businesses, complete projects that can be utilized in a portfolio, and prepare students for future interviews.

The Management Information Systems (M.I.S.) major is an interdisciplinary program designed for individuals interested in business and who enjoy technological opportunities. Northwest professors focus on three core areas: system analysis, system design and project management that prepares students to take leadership roles focused on teamwork, customer service and data analysis.

A major in International Business prepares students for a profession involving international politics, economics, knowledge about information processing and computer systems, and analytical and critical thinking skills. At Northwest, this interdisciplinary program provides knowledge of successfully operating a business in the global marketplace.

The interactive digital media major at Northwest is an interdisciplinary program involving an emphasis in computer science, graphic design or new media. The courses offer a cross-section of skills in design as well as written and visual communication. The major produces graduates who are proficient in art, photography, design, communication, computer programming and legal or ethical considerations as they relate to media.

Finance majors at Northwest focus on four areas: financial services, financial computing, corporate finance and finance management.

The first of its kind in Missouri and the region, Northwest’s Data Science major is an interdisciplinary program with four areas of emphasis. The business emphasis is designed for students interested in analyzing data and projecting the best option for a client. Faculty focus on ensuring students have tools to analyze big data and make proper business decisions.

Economics majors at Northwest develop analytical, critical thinking and decision-making skills in preparation of evaluating the decisions made by businesses, consumers and government. The goal of this degree is to assess information and decisions in order understand the structure, operation, and investigation of decisions.

The Bachelor of Science in Criminology is an interdisciplinary study of crime and the criminal justice system. It is the broad investigation of the roles that sociological and psychological factors play in determining how a society defines crime, contributes to or deters criminal behavior, and responds to victims and offenders. Criminologists have a wide variety of career paths from which to choose. Those interested in working within the criminal justice system may pursue a number of government jobs including, careers within law enforcement, courts, or corrections.

The comprehensive major in biology emphasizing in general biology is the most flexible track as it provides students the opportunity to take courses in zoology, botany, ecology, physiology, microbiology, molecular and cell biology and environmental science to align their interests seek admission to graduate school.

The Agricultural Science major at Northwest is an interdisciplinary program that prepares students for a career in a variety of agricultural-related occupations and farm operations. This major provides an opportunity to explore interests in agriculture. Students will gain the fundamental skills in agricultural economics, plant science, animal science and soils.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration provides students with the knowledge, experience, and marketable skills critical to success in our fast-paced, global environment. The program emphasizes the effective application of business methods, the use of technology in making business decisions, quantitative reasoning, communication skills, team-based solutions, and ethical decision-making.

The Department of Chemistry and Physics, located in the recently renovated campus Science Center, offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry certified by the American Chemical Society. Students may choose from optional concentrations in Biochemistry, Forensic Science, and Nanotechnology.
