Trevecca’s Bachelor of Science in physics education equips students with the foundation needed to become effective and engaging teachers in grades six through twelve. The program offers unique research and hands-on learning opportunities including near-space research, electron microscopy, digital electronics, and solar telescope engagement.

This concentration is for students that want to teach Biology in high school. The overall educational objective of the biological sciences undergraduate program is to provide students with a conceptual foundation in biology and a skills base necessary to build successful careers in industry or business or to succeed in graduate school or professional school.

The Bachelor of Science in mathematics education prepares students with a love of mathematics for a teaching career in grades six through twelve. Students are encouraged to participate in the national and international math community; students also have opportunities to apply for internships, conferences, and research projects around the world.

The Bachelor of Science in chemistry education offers a broad understanding of science, accredited education training, and hands-on research experience. This interdisciplinary program provides a foundation for becoming an effective educator in grades 6-12, pursuing a career in science, or moving into graduate school.

The Mathematics Education Concentration strives to produce mathematics educators who are innovators and leaders in the teaching field as well as capable mathematicians. A year-long student teaching experience is included in the curriculum, and upon graduation, students have a B.S. in Mathematics and are certified to teach mathematics in grades 6-12 in Louisiana public schools.

The Secondary Education – Mathematics program at ACU trains you in the art and science of teaching Mathematics while providing critical coursework to deepen your knowledge and understanding of the field of education. Three key attributes of the program will prepare you for a successful career in education. First, the program emphasizes the integration of educational principles across the teaching profession. You will learn that teaching is not compartmentalized but is a rich combination of research-based theories and hands-on practical experience. Second, the program emphasizes practicality. Through the lens of extensive experience, faculty provide you with timely and valuable glimpses into today’s classrooms. The final and most valuable attribute of the program is the emphasis on mentoring. Because of the small size of the university, you will be able to develop a strong mentoring relationship with your instructors. This mentoring begins in the classroom, and continues through student teaching, and beyond.

Electives in pre-college teaching in mathematics provide students with the necessary background for obtaining a California Secondary Teaching Credential in mathematics.
