Earth science is the study of how our planet evolved and the forces that have shaped, and continue to shape, the earth that we live on. In this specialist route available in our BSc (Honours) Natural Sciences (Q64), you’ll learn why volcanoes occur, what fossils indicate about past environments, how the oceans regulate climate and why sea-level changes. As well as gaining an understanding of earth sciences, you’ll develop analytical and problem-solving skills.

The program in BSc in Earth Sciences provides a general bachelor-level education in earth sciences and also offers the possibility to specialize in Geology. The BSc Physical Geography and Oceanography programme ensures research & practice-led studies of the physical environment with a special focus on the marine environment. The main aim of the programme is to prepare highly qualified specialists who are able to creatively apply the acquired knowledge of geo-information technologies and physical geography in the fields of the marine environment, land management, and environmental protection.

Earth Sciences in a Changing World is an undergraduate interdisciplinary program that offers a rigorous international and comparative perspective on the contemporary global system. Its mission is to foster creative thinking about complex global problems and to equip students with the analytical tools and cross-cultural understanding to guide them in that process. The main goal of the program is to provide basic knowledge in geography, geology, and anthropogenic transformations in the environment and their impact on the lives of local communities and global change.

Pitt-Johnstown offers a bachelor of science degree in energy and earth resources with concentrations in energy resource geology and environmental geology. The University also offers a minor in geology and collaborates with the Education Division to offer a bachelor of science in secondary education – earth and space science.

Geology is the study of the structure, evolution, and history of Earth and its mineral and energy resources. Geology students at South Dakota Mines take advantage of the rich geological and paleontological resources of the region. They also can access the extensive fossil and mineral collections of the Museum of Geology, which is located on campus.

The primary purpose of the BSc Honours qualification is to consolidate and deepen the students’ knowledge and expertise in Geology and to develop research capacity in its methodology and techniques of it. BSc Honours is essentially a coursework degree of which at least 25% (30) of the credits are devoted to a research project and reporting under supervision.

Studying the Earth and its processes. Students receive a broad background in the Earth sciences and select one of five specialty concentrations.

Students within the Geography program at Montana State are introduced to a series of core geography courses that explore world regional, physical and human geography concepts.
