Marine Science is a well-rounded and multi-disciplinary program which has been carefully designed to take full advantage of the unique variety of marine environments available for study around the island of Hawaiʻi.

The Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in Coastal Ecology and Conservation serves the need for trained coastal scientists with knowledge and skills required to address the unique problems facing coastal ecosystems.

The growing significance of environmental issues to the overall health of our world in the new century requires more individuals who are scientifically trained to contribute to solving environmental problems. The BS in Biology with ecology emphasis is designed to provide in-depth training for students planning to do research in various areas of environmental sciences as either graduate students or employees of environmental agencies and companies.

From oceans to coastal wetlands, students will learn about marine organisms and their behaviors and interactions with the environment. Marine Sciences students study oceanography, statistics, fisheries and aquatic sciences, and invertebrate biodiversity. Students can focus elective courses on ecology, organismal biology, economics, human dimensions, and/or quantitative or professional skills.

The Bachelor of Science in Marine Resource Management (B.S.-M.R.M.) degree is designed for graduates who have completed an Associate in Arts (A.A.) or Associate in Science (A.S.) degree. The B.S.-M.R.M. program includes coursework and field experience in marine resource management settings to enable students to integrate theory with practice.
