The General Science Concentration in the Bachelor of Science program is offered through the College of Basic and Applied Sciences at MTSU. General Science is one of the oldest academic fields and remains very significant today. It incorporates a wide range of topics as science is present all around us every day. General Science is often embraced by medical professionals, researchers, and scientists as it considers a broad range of topics and considerations including physics, biology, and chemistry. Each of these areas are important for a general understanding of our surroundings.

The social justice concentration focuses on understanding the impact of structured inequality based on race, class, gender, sexual orientation, and disability, exploring and critiquing social policy that reinforces and sustains inequality. Social activism and change are also addressed.

Sociology is the study of social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior. It is an expanding field that addresses challenging issues such as family dynamics, inequality, patterns of behavior, and forces for social change and resistance. Sociologists' research can be applied to virtually any aspect of social life, from crime to corporate downsizing.

The Fashion Merchandising Concentration is part of the Bachelor of Science in Textiles, Merchandising, and Design at MTSU. Fashion Merchandising prepares students for the fast-paced, exciting world of the garment industry. A USDA report indicates there is an unmet demand for professionals in the fashion business, one of the largest and most vital industries in the U.S. today.

The Filmmaking Concentration of the Bachelor of Science in Video and Film Production is offered by the College of Media and Entertainment at MTSU. The Filmmaking concentration provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in the art, craft, and business of filmmaking. No longer the exclusive domain of Hollywood studios, every modern organization needs filmmakers who have the skills to influence, inform, inspire, or entertain.

The Live Production Concentration of the Bachelor of Science in Video and Film Production is offered by the College of Media and Entertainment at MTSU. The Live Production program has 30 years of experience with live sports production. In a typical semester, this program produces over two dozen live sports broadcasts with all student crews--many of which are aired nationwide on ESPN and other channels. Twice in the last six years, students in the program have been recognized for the best student-produced sports broadcast in the nation by a sports industry trade association. This program also produces a variety of in-studio and on-location music concerts, dance, and theatrical events and other live, special-events. Productions with Grammy-winning music artists, The Nashville Symphony, and Bonnaroo are regular class projects.

Motion Design fuses the technical skills, artistic aesthetics, and creativity of animation, graphic design, and video/film production to create compelling and moving visual imagery that can entertain, educate, inform, influence, or inspire. You see this kind of work anywhere that production design really matters.

Well qualified students who are pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Audio Production may be eligible to enroll in the B.S/M.F.A. Accelerated Bachelor’s to Masters (ABM) program. The ABM program allows students to earn credit toward the Master of Fine Arts in Recording Arts and Technologies that also counts toward the Bachelor of Science in Audio Production.

The Commercial Songwriting Concentration of the Bachelor of Science in Recording Industry is offered through the College of Media and Entertainment at MTSU. Students must choose between the Commercial Songwriting Concentration and the Music Business Concentration. Music is an important part of life, and for many, music means songs — a magic combination of lyrics and melody that makes a difference ranging from lifting a mood to driving a movement. Located only a few miles from Nashville, the nation's songwriting mecca, MTSU offers students exceptional opportunities through its Commercial Songwriting program in Recording Industry

Interactive Media is, to date the most advanced form of communication. Prior forms of media have come together with layers of interaction to give the viewer/consumer/user an active role in the content. The Internet, social media, video games, and apps are only the beginning. The stage is set for Interactive Media to positively affect essentially every human endeavor. MTSU’s Bachelor of Science in Interactive Media degree is designed to help students embrace this world of new possibilities with hands-on skills built on a foundation of concept and theory to not only succeed in this exciting field, but to help invent it. Media Management majors study how to lead, supervise, and motivate employees in the media industry. Program professors are skilled teachers whose backgrounds include academic and professional achievement at the highest levels. The curriculum covers marketing, sales, distribution, programming, and management for the media industry. Students learn about the inner workings of media companies such as radio, television, and digital media. Outside the classroom, students are encouraged to become involved in student media organizations where there are hands-on opportunities in management, marketing, sales, and production. Students are also encouraged to complete internships at the department’s many internship partners. Interns not only learn “on the job” but also begin to establish themselves in the industry. The Bachelor of Science in Public Writing and Rhetoric is offered through the College of Liberal Arts at MTSU. Learn to write effectively for a wide range of audiences and purposes in the new Public Writing and Rhetoric major. While most people never stop to consider it, a tremendous number of management personnel are required to keep the nation’s airports, airlines, and other aviation-related companies running effectively and efficiently. The Aviation Management concentration offers the preparation needed for graduates to move into these management positions in the aviation industry. Airport, airline, and fixed base operations (FBO) careers, as well as consulting and intermodal transportation positions, are all possible for graduates of the Aviation Management program. Students will gain important financial, marketing, technical, and business skills needed to successfully manage operations in the aviation industry. Students and will complete a Business Administration minor to complement their aviation coursework, and this unique background prepares students to move quickly into responsible positions within the industry.
