Our Television Production BA is a practice-based course taught by broadcast industry professionals and media theorists, combining critical analysis with hands-on practical skills. Our course focuses on how television programmes are conceived, produced, commissioned and distributed in a digital broadcast and multi-platform environment. You’ll work across a digital workflow supporting single-camera and multi-camera studio production modes and produce programmes across all genres, from documentary and drama series to TV commercials and studio entertainment shows. As well as learning practical skills in editing, camera operations, sound recording, lighting and graphics, you’ll study critical analysis of the ever-changing global broadcast and digital media industries. You’ll work with industry-standard facilities and equipment while being taught by experienced industry professionals and practitioners, including documentary filmmakers, directors, producers and screenwriters. We also host a range of visiting lecturers and guest speakers, from sound designers to investigative journalists and social media strategists.

The AFDA Postgraduate school is focused on developing innovative research, origination, production, and distribution of entertainment concepts for both local and international markets. Over the last fifteen years, the AFDA Postgraduate School has produced a large network of graduates who have made a significant contribution to the South African entertainment industry. A large percentage of commercials, feature films, television series, music, and retail content is produced by AFDA Honours graduates.

The media & journalism major offers and requires a variety of foundational and skills courses to help prepare students to enter the “real world” of media. The blending of media law and media ethics with hands-on skills is inherent in the courses offered in this major. The television, radio, and digital media track is designed for students planning to work in television (broadcast, cable, satellite, digital, mobile) and/or radio (broadcast, satellite, digital).

BA in Broadcast Production This pathway is for those interested in careers in creative broadcast programme and media making for television, radio, journalism, podcasts and other new and emerging digital media platforms. This degree aims to introduce you to the widest possible experience of modern broadcasting combined with critical thinking and excellent online skills.

This Film and Television Production Degree will equip you with the varied skillset, experience, and portfolio required to enter, work, and succeed in today’s Film and TV industries. This is a practice-based course that aims to train the complete, versatile, contemporary filmmaker, with a strong academic and theoretical underpinning. 

The mission of the Mass Communication program is to prepare students to be proficient in communicating information and ideas through the utilization of media, to be qualified to hold positions in mass communication, and to gain admission to graduate and professional schools.

Television production and online entertainment are expanding globally. With more and more channels and online platforms emerging, audiences are always expecting new content. BA TV Production equips students with technical skills to make high-quality TV programmes. It also helps students develop creative content targeting both domestic and international markets.

The Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema provides students with a comprehensive and integrated program of study, that incorporates theoretical knowledge with practical skills, relevant to their future professional careers. The department looks to its experienced academic staff, to educate students to become the next generation of professionals in the cinema and film world. Graduates are known for their creativity and talent, and through the training given, fully meet the requirements of the film and media industries.

Develop your creative confidence and ‘voice’ through experimentation and exploration in our purpose-built, industry-standard Minghella Studios, a dynamic collaborative environment in which film, theatre and television makers work alongside each other. You'll have access to three flexible theatre spaces, a multi-camera film and TV studio (featuring Arri Alexa film cameras), a digital cinema, and a dedicated recording studio and mixing suite with state-of-the-art equipment. 

The digital film and television major prepares students to work behind the scenes producing short films and television programs using high-definition equipment, and in the process, students learn a broad understanding of the moving image. Throughout the program, students develop an extensive knowledge to produce, direct, light, shoot, edit, record and manage.

The B.A. in Applied Theatre, Film, and Television (ATFT) brings together three related humanities-based arts disciplines. We are the disciplinary home for theatre as both theory and practice and combine the strengths of the film and media studies curriculum in the School of Liberal Arts, its numerous production courses, along with relevant and exciting media and theatre-related work being done in Herron School of Art, the School of Informatics and Computing, and the School of Engineering and Technology.

Cinema and Television Studies majors study the history, theory, and criticism of the moving image.

Prepare for a career in studio and field production for TV and video. Through hands-on experience, you will learn professional skills to produce and edit shows and have access to SUNY Plattsburgh’s television facility, PSTV, where you can gain TV and video industry experience.

Storytelling is at the foundation of the entertainment industry regardless of the screen from which you engage with content be it on a movie screen, television screen, computer screen or via a mobile device.

Freshmen and sophomores enroll each quarter in one or two courses designed as preparation for the major (primarily cinema and media studies), while also completing their general education, writing, literature and foreign language degree requirements.
