The Liberal Studies B.A. major provides students with the unique opportunity to pursue their academic passion through many interdisciplinary pathways. You can choose from thematic concentrations or you can Design Your Own major, based on your academic interests and career goals. 

The Liberal Studies/Elementary Bachelor of Arts program is the teacher preparation program for K-8 teachers, offered through the College of Arts & Sciences and the School of Education's Curriculum & Instruction department. The program includes courses in English literature, fine arts, humanities, math and science, social sciences, and teaching methodology courses.

The Liberal Studies (LS) major has a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary curriculum that encompasses many areas of knowledge in the humanities, arts, and sciences. The program consists of innovative courses in literature, performance, communication, education, environmental studies, natural and social sciences, humanities, and the creative arts. This richly diversified major gives students skills and knowledge that will serve them well for work and life in our increasingly complex and interconnected world.

This program is designed for you if you wish to (1) study a particular problem or theme through a multi-disciplinary constellation of courses, or (2) create an academic major-equivalent for which relevant courses exist, in the absence of an approved degree program.The Liberal Studies Program is designed to help the students in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) develop and plan an interdisciplinary course of study that explores a particular problem or theme through a multi- disciplinary constellation of courses, enhances critical thinking with ethical thought, develops problem-solving skills, and creates well-informed, responsible and engaged global citizens.

Discover the oldest discipline within the liberal arts. Classics is the study of ancient Greece and Rome, from their languages to their architecture, their art to their political thought. At UMass Amherst, classics scholars delve deep into these ancient societies to understand them in their own context and discover the ways in which these societies continue to shape our world.

The education department at Cottey College focuses on developing the relational teacher. Cottey's education students learn about the importance of building appropriate teacher-student relationships and how to maintain those relationships in a classroom setting so that the growth of the whole person is honored.

Rather than concentrating on a single field of study, the liberal arts program explores a variety of subjects to build a firm foundation of knowledge across the board.

The Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts requires a total of 120 credits, at least 90 of which must be in the Liberal Arts, 40 taken at Old Westbury, and 45 at the upper-division level.

Converse’s Studio Art major and minor offers students opportunities to develop their artistic talent, understand and explore the creative process and broaden their analytical thinking and technical skills.

Bachelor of Arts in Music Liberal Arts If you’re seeking a broad-based approach to the study of music, the Bachelor of Arts in Music with a liberal arts concentration offers a program you can tailor to match your interests. This major lets you combine the study of music with a broad range of electives from other areas of study. If you want the flexibility to pursue a double major with music and another degree at Truman, this program is a good fit for you.

The program offers a wide variety of courses from the social sciences, humanities, and natural sciences. Courses taught by SSU faculty are scheduled evenings, weekends, and online for the working student. The major consists of 50 units of coursework in a variety of disciplines, organized into three broad areas.

The Department of Music provides undergraduate instruction in music for those planning professional careers as performers, composers, and studio teachers, as well as those preparing for advanced degrees in performance and composition. It also provides State-approved subject matter preparation required for a single-subject California teaching credential in music, and graduate instruction for students planning professional and academic careers or seeking professional growth as K 12 teachers or junior college instructors.
