Along with mathematics, physics, and material resistance, much attention is paid to the theory of heat transfer, hydrodynamics, thermodynamics, gas dynamics, mathematical and 3-d modeling and design, computer-aided design, computerization of computational, research and design works.
The multilateral theoretical basis is firmly fixed by practical work on a unique set of laboratory and research stands, in research and development, during practical training in leading design bureaus, research institutes, at the cosmodromes of Plesetsk, Baikonur, and Vostochny.
The main areas of research and development work commissioned by enterprises, federal target programs, grants of the Russian Federal Property Fund and the President of Russia:Experimental and theoretical research and development of working processes of rocket and jet engines
Automation of rocket engine design and modeling of work processes in rocket engines using ANSYS, FLUENT, SOLID WORKS packages

Conversion technologies of rocket engines for enterprises of the fuel and energy complex of RussiaCustomers include space industry enterprises, federal target programs, grants from the Russian Federal Property Fund and the President of Russia.
The rocket engine laboratory is equipped with equipment that ensures high-quality performance of the engine testing process (central measuring laboratory, high pressure compressor station, compressed air batteries, oxygen and nitrogen equipment. There is an assembly and mechanical sections for assembling, assembling, equipping, disassembling and manufacturing engines, a section argon-arc welding, allowing to quickly produce new parts and assemblies in the process of modernization of the tested products, metal in new developments.
Graduates of the department "Rocket Engines" in all specialties are guaranteed to receive interesting, prestigious and promising jobs, and many of them successfully work as heads of departments, sectors, chief designers of directions at the leading enterprises of the aerospace and aerospace industries of the Russian Federation.E3 - Gas-turbine and non-traditional power plantsIn 2020, the department E3 - “Gas-turbine and non-traditional power plants” conducts recruitment in the specialty 05.24.02 “Design of aircraft and rocket engines” in the following specializations (division into specializations after 4 courses):“Design of aircraft engines and power plants”;
“Designing power plants for ground-based applications based on aircraft and rocket engines”Since the training of highly qualified specialists requires a large amount of continuous training, the Department of E3 has focused on the training of engineers (specialists) in aircraft gas turbine engines and stationary installations. After completing the specialty program, graduates of the department continue their studies at the graduate school of MSTU. Bauman, TsIAM them. Baranova, JIHT RAS.
Students of the department receive in-depth knowledge of fluid and gas mechanics, numerical modeling of gas dynamics, heat transfer and heat-stressed state. They are mastering a systematic approach to the research and development of engines and power plants, including new ideas, basic research, computer and experimental modeling.
In the learning process, students use the most modern software to design and conduct computational research, since without the use of CAD and CAE packages, the processes in modern power equipment are no longer calculated, and the power plants themselves are not designed. But such programs are able to create and use only specialists who know the physics of the process, mathematical modeling and computer-aided design systems.
To ensure scientific research and the educational process, it is used as its own material and technical base of the department (laboratories: fluid and gas mechanics, spatula machines, heat exchangers, wind energy, closed gas turbines; showroom, computer class, laboratory and scientific base of the Educational and Scientific Center for Photon Energy ), as well as the experimental and technological base of TsIAM and JSC “Scientific and Production Center for Gas Turbine Engineering“ Salyut ”, where there are branches of the department.
To conduct a number of laboratory works, unique experimental stands of TsAGI and Moscow State University are used. M.V. Lomonosov (as part of the work of the joint inter-university scientific and educational laboratory "Thermogasdynamics" headed by professor of the Department of E-3 Academician A.I. Leontyev).
During the training, students go through several types of practices. Practice objects correspond to the chosen specialization. Practices are held at the engine-building enterprises and institutes of Moscow, the innovative Aerospace cluster of the Samara region, gas pumping stations of PJSC Gazprom.
At the request of students and in their knowledge of a foreign language, one- and two-year internships are organized in foreign technical universities, such as École Polytechnique, universities in Germany and the Netherlands.
Graduates of the E-3 department professionally work as researchers, designers, calculators, managers and technologists in various fields of activity related not only to gas turbine construction, but also to the entire field of energy and engine building from the depths of the sea to space and in many fields related to them.
Graduates of the department are in demand not only in Russia, but also abroad, working as researchers and specialists in leading companies, professors at universities in various countries. The scientific and teaching staff of the department has extensive scientific ties with leading research centers in many countries of the world.
Graduate students and students of the department take an active part in the research work of the department, are authors of reports at international and Russian conferences.E8 - Plasma power plantsIn 2020, the department of E8 - " Plasma power plants" conducts recruitment in the specialty 05/24/02 "Design of aircraft and rocket engines .
