Currently, the department is training specialists at two faculties: “Special Engineering” (SM) and “Aerospace” (ACF) on the basis of JSC VPK “NPO Mashinostroyeniya”.
At the Faculty of Special Engineering, the educational process is organized in the traditional form adopted at leading technical universities. The training system at the Aerospace Faculty includes, as an integral part of the educational process, continuous research and production practice with an internship in the design and research departments of JSC VPK NPO Mashinostroyeniya. The organization of the training process at the Aerospace Faculty allows you to combine a strong faculty, well-equipped teaching laboratories, a large park of modern computer technology, the largest library of scientific, technical and educational literature of MSTU. N.E. Bauman with great opportunities that provides them with an enterprise. The main role in this is given to the methodological orientation on the interaction of the university educational process and the scientific and production activities of the enterprise. It requires the coordinated efforts of university teachers and enterprise specialists.
The main value of the implemented training system is that students from the first day of training are immersed in the professional environment of the company. All design bureaus, research departments and laboratories, production units are open for them, specialists of all levels are available for communication. The program of continuous research and production practice is structured in such a way that each student constantly gets acquainted with different departments, their specialists, equipment and teaching materials, has the opportunity to participate in the work of creative teams both in the framework of educational design or research work, and as part of production activities by labor agreement. JSC VPK NPO MashinostroeniyaIndustrial practice is one of the types of training sessions that form the students' idea of the chosen profession. After the third year, students undergo the first technological practice under the guidance of teachers of the department "Technology of space rocket engineering" (SM-12). For four weeks they are acquainted with modern technologies and equipment used in the space and rocket industry at the parent enterprise of the Military-Industrial Corporation Scientific-Production Association of Mechanical Engineering (Reutov, Moscow Region). During the practice, students study the work of the main production units of the enterprise: the department of the chief technologist, the department of the chief metallurgist, the procurement operations department, the assembly department, and the testing department.
The second, design and technological practice after the fourth year is also conducted under the guidance of teachers of the department "Technology of rocket and space engineering." At a leading enterprise in the industry, the State Scientific and Production Center named after M.V. Khrunicheva (Moscow), in a design bureau, students study in detail the technological processes of manufacturing and assembling components and assemblies of the Proton, Angara, and Breeze M booster rockets. Particular attention is paid to the machining, assembly and testing processes used in the production of large diameter frames, fuel tanks, gas storage cylinders, propulsion frames, fairings. The best specialists of enterprises with knowledge and experience always provide students with attention and support.
The training process for future engineers continues after the fifth year, during the third, operational practice. It begins with a trip to the First State Testing Cosmodrome Plesetsk, located in the Arkhangelsk region. From here regular launches of the Cyclone, Lightning, Rokot, Cosmos-3M, Soyuz-2, Topol-M missiles are carried out to carry out tasks of civilian and military importance. The operation of complex equipment requires people to be highly professional, in-depth knowledge and responsibility. A two-week stay at the training ground with a visit to ground-based missile preparation and launch complexes, as well as the presence at the launch of missiles, leave students with an unforgettable impression. Students take the second half of the practice at JSC VPK “NPO Mashinostroeniya”. Under the guidance of experienced specialists, they acquire skills in designing and testing structural elements of aircraft, participate in the work on thematic plans of units.
The final stage of industrial training is the fourth, undergraduate practice. Graduation projects of students necessarily have a practical focus and are mainly devoted to the development of promising aircraft. For full-fledged work on the project, each student is individually selected a place for undergraduate practice at one of the industry enterprises: JSC VPK "NPO Mashinostroyeniya", GKNPTs im. MVKhrunicheva, JSC RSC "Energy" named after S.P. Koroleva, FSUE “TsENKI” - “Design Bureau“ Motor ”. The department used and uses the Baikonur, Kapustin Yar and Plesetsk cosmodromes, as well as training facilities of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, as bases of operational practice for students.
