The educational program «Nuclear power plants: design, maintenance, and engineering» is focused on preparation highly qualified specialists for nuclear power plants, design organizations, and engineering companies, research institutes, centers, laboratories, and engineering bureaus of organizations and enterprises, carrying out serve and repair of main and auxiliary equipment of nuclear power plants, in Russian Federation and also in other countries.
The educational program is realized at the department «Nuclear and thermal power plants» Institute of Thermal Power Engineering in accordance with federal public education standard for higher education – specialist Degree program by specialty 14.05.02 Nuclear power plants: design, maintenance, and engineering. According to this standard education is realized on specialty «Design and maintenance of nuclear power plants». The uniqueness of this educational program opens to graduate huge possibilities. There are demanding in the labor market, the highest level of salaries among workers in the energy sector. The term of graduation full-time education is 5 years 6 months. Based on the results of training and passing the state final certification, the graduate is awarded the qualification - specialist: engineer-physicist.

Russian Federation is one of the five world countries in terms of the amount of electricity produced at nuclear power facilities. There are 10 nuclear power plants in Russia, which produce about 20% of all electricity produced in the country.
In Russia, the leader in the development of nuclear energy is the State Atomic Energy Corporation «Rosatom», which is faced with the task of implementing the decision of the President of the Russian Federation to increase the share of nuclear energy in the total energy balance of the country at least 25% by 2045. So, it is increasing of nuclear power plants in the construction (at least 24 new power units) on the territory of our country.
The governmental corporation «Rosatom» is one of the most important strategic partners of Kazan state power engineering university. Rosatom is realized huge program of nuclear power plants building not only in Russia but also in other countries. The portfolio of foreign orders includes 35 blocks at different stages of implementation. For our graduates, this means great prospects for employment at the most modern and advanced nuclear power plants in Russia and the world or participation in large international projects for the development of world nuclear energy.

The department implements the scientific and educational platform «Computer simulators in heat and power generation». In preparation of specialist degree a software and hardware modeling complex are applied using a full-scale mathematical model of the power unit VVER-1000, which ensures the development of the student's intellectual skills in the management and operation of nuclear power plants in the most difficult operating modes, allows for the development of actions for the safe operation of equipment of nuclear power plants. Computer simulators provide advanced training, student readiness to comprehend real processes in nuclear power, training of qualified personnel who will come to the nuclear industry in the future.
