The mechanical engineer develops and designs machinery, equipment, vehicles, heating and cooling systems and specific tools of the mechanical industry. He also oversees his production. It calculates the necessary amount of raw material, provides molds of the parts that will be manufactured, creates prototypes and tests the obtained products. Organizes storage systems, supervises processes and defines safety standards and procedures for production. Corria o ano de 1962 quando o professor Manoel Bezerra de Melo criou, na cidade de Mogi das Cruzes, uma escola de ensino fundamental, que na época ainda se chamava "ginásio". Começava ali a Organização Mogiana de Educação e Cultura - OMEC. Em 1964, foram instaladas as primeiras faculdades do complexo educacional que, a partir de 1973, passou a ser a Universidade de Mogi das Cruzes (UMC). Tradição e pioneirismo marcam os cinquenta anos de história da Instituição. Ao longo deste período, a UMC vem preparando seus alunos, que hoje somam mais de 20 mil nos campi de Mogi das Cruzes e Villa-Lobos/Lapa, para as exigências do mercado de trabalho e para o exercício da cidadania. Atualmente a Universidade de Mogi das Cruzes conta com dezenas de cursos cujos conteúdos e métodos de ensino-aprendizagem são continuamente atualizados e aprimorados. O corpo docente da UMC é formado por 60% de mestres e doutores, muitos dos quais desenvolvem importantes projetos científicos.
