TRAINING OR PROFESSIONAL STUDY IN HAMBURG
This program is offered at the NBS in part-time on Friday evenings and Saturdays for professionals and trainees. Thus it is possible to acquire an accredited and state-recognized university degree within 8 semesters. The degree is completed by the Bachelor of Arts (BA).
The bachelor's degree program Management Social Work prepares an application-oriented approach to the special requirements in fields of social work and forms a solid foundation in the methodology of scientific work. They gain expertise in social sciences and business management as well as an understanding of interdisciplinary questions. By imparting key qualifications, you will be able to analyze problems, work out ethical and legal solutions and implement them in practice.
Graduates of the degree program Management Social Work take on responsible and leading positions with public and private institutions. They are scientifically and practically trained specialists who are able to develop, implement and evaluate dynamic and complex processes. Dealing with people and coordinating sensitive workflows requires special social skills. Professional knowledge, organizational skill and independent work are just as essential as communication skills and teamwork.
The study is conducted in part-time on Friday evenings and Saturdays. The course is composed of three complementary disciplines: The main focus of the study is the mediation of the basics and the practical aspects of social work. These include, among others, the history and theory of social work, professional ethics, social policy and action concepts. At the same time, you are trained in economic factors of social work such as controlling and personnel management. In the third module methodology and fundamentals of scientific work are taught and practically tested.
The vocational options
Social work is a practice-oriented occupational field that analyzes, supports and drives social development. It deals with the resolution of conflicts and the care and support of the people. Social justice, human rights and social responsibility are central aspects. The course Management Social Work enables you to take up activities in fields such as family help, elderly help, addiction counseling, migration work, adult and youth education or youth work, but also in a wide variety of institutions, for example in clinics, youth events, children's homes, counseling centers and seniors' homes.
The conceptualisation of the study program was carried out in consultation with the SBB Foundation for Vocational Education and Training to ensure the professional abilities of the graduates. The employability of the students is further promoted during the course through the integrated seminar program.
State recognition for social workers and social workers
Graduates who complete a social internship for more than 100 working days at the NBS may, in addition to the Bachelor of Arts, bear the title of "state-approved social pedagogue and social worker". State recognition is a central qualification for social workers in Germany and allows access to professions in many social institutions.

Additional: proof of min. Four weeks of professional experience in social and health care, eg by means of a work certificate, a qualification certificate, relevant vocational training or proof of completion of a voluntary social year. The professional experience can be completed by the end of the 2nd semester. Semesters. The internship can be divided into two blocks, one block must consist of at least two weeks.

Employment alongside their studies
In order to enable a successful conclusion of the course within the normal period and to avoid an overload for the students, it is recommended not to exceed a weekly working time of 30 hours.
Lecture periods and Break
The winter semester extends from 01.09. until 15:02., the summer semester runs from 01:03. until 31.07. In the last two weeks of February, August and from Christmas Eve to New Year neither lectures nor checks.
Lecture times and places
The courses are held on Fridays 18:00 to 21:15 and Saturday 8:30 to 5:00 p.m. in our study centers and Quarree Holstenhofweg and on the premises of Helmut Schmidt University Hamburg.
Tuition and Fees
The study fees amount to 295 euros per month. In addition, a one-time fee of 300 euros will be charged for the final examination (total price: 14,460 euros).
