The degree program "Management Social Work" (BA) is an accredited, state-approved study program offered by the NBS Northern Business School Hamburg School of Management and Security.
This program is offered at the NBS in two time models, in full-time during the day for high school graduates and technical school graduates and Friday evenings and Saturdays for professionals and trainees.
The particular advantageYou can change the time model while studying. So you are welcome to attend the courses in occupational time model and so pursue your studies quickly as during an extended internship.
The degree is completed by the Bachelor of Arts (BA). A successful degree, combined with an internship in the social sector, is at the same time associated with a state recognition as a social pedagogue / social worker and social worker.
The Bachelor's degree course in Management Social Work prepares for the special requirements in fields of social work in an application-oriented manner and makes you sound in the methodology of scientific work. They gain expertise in social sciences and business management as well as an understanding of interdisciplinary questions. By imparting key qualifications, you will be able to analyze problems, work out ethical and legal solutions and implement them in practice.
Graduates of the degree program Management Social Work take on responsible and leading positions with public and private institutions. They are scientifically and practically trained specialists who are able to develop, implement and evaluate dynamic and complex processes. Dealing with people and coordinating sensitive workflows requires special social skills. Professional knowledge, organizational skill and independent work are just as essential as communication skills and teamwork.
The course is composed of three complementary disciplines: The main focus of the study is the mediation of the basics and the practical aspects of social work. These include, among others, the history and theory of social work, professional ethics, social policy and action concepts. At the same time, you are trained in economic factors of social work such as controlling and personnel management. In the third module methodology and fundamentals of scientific work are taught and practically tested.
The vocational options
Social work is a practice-oriented occupational field that analyzes, supports and drives social development. It deals with the resolution of conflicts and the care and support of the people. Social justice, human rights and social responsibility are central aspects. The course Management Social Work enables you to take up activities in fields such as family help, elderly help, addiction counseling, migration work, adult and youth education or youth work, but also in a wide variety of institutions, for example in clinics, youth events, children's homes, counseling centers and seniors' homes.
The conceptualisation of the study program was carried out in consultation with the SBB Foundation for Vocational Education and Training to ensure the professional abilities of the graduates. The state recognition as a social pedagogue and social worker can also be achieved with the successful conclusion. The employability of the students is further promoted during the course through the integrated seminar program.
State recognition for social workers and social workers
Graduates who complete a social internship for more than 100 working days at the NBS may, in addition to the Bachelor of Arts, bear the title of "state-approved social pedagogue and social worker". State recognition is a central qualification for social workers in Germany and allows access to professions in many social institutions.

Additional: proof of min. Four weeks of professional experience in social and health care, eg by means of a work certificate, a qualification certificate, relevant vocational training or proof of completion of a voluntary social year. The professional experience can be completed by the end of the 2nd semester. Semesters. The internship can be divided into two blocks, one block must consist of at least two weeks.

Lecture periods and Break
The winter semester extends from 01.09. until 31.01., the summer semester runs from 01:03. until 31.07. There are neither lectures nor examinations taking place in February and August and from Christmas Eve to New Year.

The lectures are held during the day at our study centers Quarree and Holstenhofweg.
Tuition and Fees
The study fees are due in 36 installments of EUR 435 per month. In addition, a one-time fee of 300 euros will be charged for the bachelor's thesis (total price: 15.960 euros). In addition, at the beginning of each semester, the costs for the SemesterTicket (as per WS 2016/17: approx. 170 Euro per semester) are determined by the HVV.
