Computing is no longer restricted to desktop computers and business environments but has become an integral part of the way we live. This is a rapidly advancing industry that is radically changing the way we live. There is a clear need a new generation of computing professionals that can adapt to these changes and develop the software, hardware and networking solutions of the future. Unlike traditional computer science degrees, you will not simply be taught strict theoretical programming. This degree programme will allow you hands-on, practical experience in developing and using applications for a range of computing platforms and hardware. Computers of all shapes and sizes continue to be an integral part of our society and this Computer Engineering degree programme will teach you how these computers work and how to create the applications that run on them. For example, you will have the opportunity to develop applications for robots, embedded and real-time systems, and other innovative ICTs. You will also learn how industry standard tools and techniques can be used to find and develop solutions to many of the challenges in this area of engineering.

The first year of all of our engineering degree programmes at the University of Greenwich focuses on the understanding of engineering science fundamental principles. This approach ensures that all of our graduates experience a solid foundation of broad technical knowledge and a working understanding of all the major Engineering disciplines – an essential prerequisite for a successful career in engineering management. At the end of the 1st year, students will be invited to choose to either continue on their initial degree programme or to swap to any of the other engineering degree programmes on offer. We feel it is very important that our students are empowered to be able to choose the degree programmes that are most appropriate for their ambitions and goals and we recognize that those may change during your studies with us as you learn more about each discipline. Skills and experience gained

The degree programme in Computer Engineering aims to provide you with the knowledge, practices, and skills that will allow you to design, develop and support software solutions on a range of existing and emergent technologies. You will become competent in developing methods for desktop, internet, mobile and cloud software and gain a deep understanding of the hardware and software on which your applications will run. You will develop the skills necessary to recognize which platforms best fit the requirements of the users and the ability to evaluate and test the solutions you or others create. You will also gain hardware-based skills, for example in advanced networking, robotics/mechatronics, and innovative devices. You will become an efficient and reflective practitioner who takes the initiative to identify emerging technologies and techniques, and who maintains your knowledge and skills within the fast-moving areas of engineering, computing and information technology. Your degree in Computer Engineering will enable you to identify and exploit new developments in technology and to experiment with new and existing techniques in designing and developing creative, innovative and effective devices to meet real-world needs.
