Here at DBS Music, we are always striving to be out of the ordinary, providing our students with something special and unique. The newest addition to our range of advanced level courses is truly groundbreaking and the first of its kind in the UK; a brand new, state-of-the-art games sound design course created to meet the demand of the rapidly expanding multi-billion pound games and apps industry.
Gone are the days when game sounds were only beeping and tones (think Pac Man circa 1980), game audio has grown to be a genre in its own right, on par with movie and TV soundtracks – in fact, since 2010 the Ivor Novello awards have included a category for best original video game score.
There is also the opportunity to go on to study at Masters level too.
This intense but flexible course is delivered by a mix of leading industry professionals, academics and experts in the field of audio education, providing the optimum balance of teaching, hands-on work and real industry experience to prepare students for the exciting world of game sound and audio.
Techniques and technologies covered include in-depth studies of sound design, sound implementation, audio programming, the creation of surround sound, composing musical scores for games as well as the emerging models of audio development in the fast-moving industry. We warned you that it was intense!
This course is in partnership with the University of St Mark & St John – students will have access to exceptional music production studios and a brand new dedicated gaming facility that will allow students to design, develop, implement and play on the latest industry-standard gaming consoles including PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
This course is for the incredibly focused and ambitious student who wants to enter the industry at the highest level.
Our typical minimum entry requirement for applicants with A levels/AS levels/ BTEC is 320 points. Other similar qualifications may be considered on an individual basis.
