Martín A. Malharro He was born in the city of Azul, on August 25, 1865. His artistic tendencies are manifested at the age of fourteen when he travels to Buenos Aires where he works to earn a living. He changes his last name from Mailharro to Malharro. He began drawing studies at the Asociación Estímulo de Bellas Artes under the direction of Francisco Romero in 1882. As a livelihood, he designs cigarette labels, business cards, letterheads, etc. In 1890 he spent a long time in the ranch of Dr. José Ramos Mejía, where the experiences carried out in the open air in front of the Pampean plain, prepared the ground for contact with impressionism. He participated in the Second Salon of the Athenaeum held in 1894 with a landscape entitled "At nightfall" and with two navies: The battleship Huáscar and the corsair and La Argentina. The latter obtains a second honorable mention and is highlighted by the capital's newspapers. In 1901 he returned to Buenos Aires after having witnessed the Paris Centennial Exhibition in 1900, which strengthened the success of Impressionism before the general public. The following year, the Witcomb Salon organizes an exhibition of his paintings made in France, some of them finished in Buenos Aires. In closing, Joaquín V. González approves the acquisition of In the middle of nature for the National Museum of Fine Arts. Read less
