Introduction
The Universidad Europea del Atlántico includes the Bachelor's degree in Applied Languages in its offer of studies in order to respond to the training needs and interests of those students who wish to acquire the professional profile of a linguistic expert. That is to say, those who want to articulate their university education around the productive and receptive command of several languages and their direct application in diverse work environments.
In this sense, the Applied Languages degree presents novel studies in the Spanish university context, fully adjusted to the demands of the labor market and adapted to the characteristics of today's society: multilingual, global and digital. The distinctive features are as follows:
- Design of a trilingual curriculum in which the student reaches a C2 level in English and Spanish during their training, and a C1 level in a second foreign language (French or German).
- Possibility of studying a third foreign language (French or German) and reaching a C1 level.
- Possibility of starting to specialize in a professional field through one of the following mentions:
- Languages and educational environments (MLEN and ENTEDU).
- Languages and business environments (MLEN and ENTEMP).
- Primary importance to internships in companies, which is why they are awarded a weight of 12 credits in the study plan.
- Special attention to the acquisition of computer and informational skills.
- Availability of modern facilities that allow students to develop the practical skills of the Degree: computer room with computer-assisted translation programs and language laboratory.
English at University
In the Degrees in Translation and Interpreting and in Applied Languages, students receive trilingual training: in Spanish, English and French or German. In order to access the studies, students must prove a B1 level in English. In the case of French and German, no prior knowledge is required.
The linguistic training offered in English throughout their studies allows students to achieve a master's level in this language (C2) and, in this way, be in a position to compete in the labor market on equal terms with respect to graduates of these degrees in other European countries.
For this, a study plan has been designed in which, in addition to the fact that students learn English from the first year, 50% of the compulsory subjects have this language as their vehicular language.
Likewise, in these grades, students must choose to study a second foreign language: French or German. In this case, despite starting studies without prior knowledge, the training that students receive from the first year allows them to master both oral and written skills (level C1) and take subjects taught in these languages in the second cycle.
