Bachelors in Biology

General

Program Description

Geneseo offers a rigorous Biology program with renowned professors, a wide range of course offerings and countless opportunities for research. The biology department seeks to provide students with a broad background in biological sciences that can be used as a foundation for a variety of careers. Students in the program will gain an understanding of the principles of genetics, ecology, evolution, cell biology, anatomy, and physiology. Students also gain skills in scientific decision-making, and in presenting scientific research in oral and written formats. We believe that our program exposes students to the breadth of biology and to the analytical skills important to be a successful biologist.

Each year, Geneseo features students’ research during a university-wide event called GREAT Day (Geneseo Recognizing Excellence, Achievement & Talent). Biology students represent the largest percentage of outstanding researchers for this event, presenting their findings through both poster and oral presentations.

You may also be interested to know that the Departments of Biology and Chemistry at Geneseo offer a B.S. degree program in Biochemistry. Extensive laboratory experience, making use of modern instrumentation in both the Biology and Chemistry Departments, is an integral part of the program. Graduates will be well prepared for employment in the fields of biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology and for graduate school.

We look forward to discussing our university more in-depth with you in the weeks ahead and are attaching our International Student Application Form for your use.

Best regards, The State University of New York at Geneseo
