The Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism at KAMK provides you with an understanding of sustainable and responsible tourism in addition to enhancing your business competence to succeed in working in the international tourism industry. The degree blends theory with practice to provide our graduates with the necessary skills to manage quality tourist experiences and to develop and manage tourism businesses with an entrepreneurial attitude.
Tourism services consist of many different components, such as accommodation, catering, program and transport services, as well as event, conference, and congress services. You will study to obtain comprehensive customer-oriented product development and marketing competence as well as the knowledge and skills to successfully manage and develop tourism businesses. An important part of the studies are projects, practical training, and thesis that are done in collaboration with the working life, providing you with the networks and skills for employment after graduation.
We encourage you to develop competence in different areas of tourism and therefore to plan a personal study path. You specialize in hospitality management, but your personal study path may also include developing your international competence in one of our partner universities abroad, a double degree with a German partner university, or practical training abroad. It is also possible to choose for example study modules from other fields, such as Arctic Sports and Tourism, Event Management, or Marketing Communications.
With good planning and determination, graduation in less than the official 3,5 years is possible.
In the Bachelor's Degree in Tourism, you will specialize in Hospitality Management. However, at KAMK, the School of Business includes degrees in Tourism, Business, and Sports allowing you to select courses and modules from other fields as well, such as Arctic Sport and Tourism or Event Management. Participating in student exchange and completing part of the studies in one of our partner universities makes it possible to broaden the specialization of your studies. It is also possible to choose a double degree with our partner universities. The studies include 5 months of practical training that also gives you an excellent opportunity to strengthen your skills in different areas for the desired career.
Our innovative approach called ActivityLab combines real work-life project work and studies. Through our ActivityLab, students can apply their new knowledge in practice, create networks, and build the skills required in working life while being part of a project group.
The entrance examination places emphasis on aptitude for studying the field, motivation, English language, and mathematical/logical thinking. In order to be considered for admission, applicants must pass each section of the examination.
KAMK accepts an entrance examination taken in the same entrance exam group at another university of applied sciences.
Submit your application online through the joint application system at Studyinfo during the application period. The application period for studies starting in autumn 2022 is arranged from 5 to 19 January 2022. Please note, the application period ends on 19 January at 3 PM Finnish local time.
During your studies, you will learn to develop and deliver high-quality experiences for tourism and to manage tourism businesses with an entrepreneurial attitude. The Bachelors of Hospitality Management with a focus on Tourism will have the skills to work in tourism development, sales, marketing and production tasks, tourism management, and as independent entrepreneurs. After graduation, your job title might be Receptionist, Tour Operator, Event Specialist, Traffic Agent, Travel Sales Coordinator, Front Desk Agent, Front Office Manager, Restaurant Manager.
The tuition fee at KAMK is 6 000 euros per academic year. The students, who accept their study place and pay their tuition fee within 14 days from the notice of admission, get a 50% discount off the tuition fee as an early bird scholarship. Later on in the studies, the scholarship rewards for study progress, ie. the students who complete a minimum of 55 credits per academic year, get a 50% discount off the tuition fee. In addition, KAMK offers an additional scholarship for those, who pass a national language test in Finnish during their studies. This scholarship is available once during the studies and offers the students the possibility to study a year for free - providing that they get both scholarships (55 credits + Finnish language) the same year.
The scholarships are always used directly to reduce the tuition fee. Scholarships are available by application only. The first year fee is paid when accepting the study place, and later on, it is paid in May yearly. The scholarship applies only to the tuition-fee paying students.
In addition to the tuition fee, the students must pay for their study materials and for their own living costs. The average monthly living expenses for a student living in Finland are approximately 700 – 900 euros. This may vary depending on personal circumstances. When applying for a residence permit in Finland, non-EU/EEA nationals need to demonstrate that they have at least 560 euros per month at their disposal – in addition to the tuition fee.
