Entrance exam and interview spring 2018
Online entrance examination 100 points
SAMK organizes its own entrance examination on the Internet. SAMK will send eligible applicants directions for testing the exam platform and for completing the entrance examination within two weeks of applying and presenting adequate proof of eligibility. Applicants are required to use their own computer and Internet connection.
In the entrance examination applicant’s learning skills, mathematical skills and understanding of written English are measured. The entrance examination can be completed from 15 January 2018 at 8.00 a.m. to at latest 13 April 2018 at 10 p.m. (all times Finnish time). Each applicant has 2 hours to complete the exam after starting it.
The applicant is required to get at least 75 points out of the maximum 100 points to be selected as a student or to be selected for the online interview. To be considered for selection from a reserve place after the application period, the applicant has to get at least 55 points from the online examination.
In the Bachelor’s degree programmes of International Business in Rauma and International Tourism Development in Pori, the applicant is required to have an online interview, after he/she has passed any of the selection methods 1, 2 and 3.
The applicant will be interviewed through a video negotiation platform with his/her own computer, webcam and Internet connection. In the interview, applicant’s skills of understanding and producing spoken English are measured. The applicants who are accepted to the interview are sent detailed information about the interview and how to register for it by e-mail within a week of completing the selection method 1 (entrance examination), 2 (SAT) or 3 (GAOKAO). The interviews will be organized from 22 January to 22 April 2018. The interview is completed in 30 minutes.
The online interview will be graded passed or failed. A passed applicant is selected as a student, a failed applicant is not.

You will gain a broad perspective of the contemporary tourism industry and its development at a destination and organisational level and develop competence in managing destinations as well as business operations in a multicultural, global environment. In this programme, you learn to utilise the northern nature and its wonders to provide tourists with unforgettable experiences, especially in a marine and coastal environment. In addition to business studies, you explore tourism from different perspectives including responsibility, safety and security, law and well-being.

The language of tuition is English. The studies are implemented in co-operation with the tourism industry, i.e. a variety of service providers, sales intermediaries, authorities and associations.
Teaching is carried out in different ways, according to the topic. There are contact lessons, e-learning, projects, visitor lectures and site visits. Students study in groups or individually.
As SAMK welcomes a lot of exchange students yearly, we can guarantee internationalisation at home as well as during the student’s exchange study or internship period abroad.
Practical Training and Thesis
Besides the projects, students have a practical internship of 30 credits. This can be performed in Finland or abroad.
In the thesis, the student demonstrates his or her ability to apply his or her knowledge and skills in practical expert duties related to the professional studies.
